Betty Jean Johnson James, 92, passed away at home on September 7,
2024. She was born in Horry County on September 2, 1932, a daughter
of the late Norton Boyd Johnson and Ida Hardwick Johnson.
As a longtime member of First United Methodist Church, Betty was
active in the John McCutcheon Sunday School Class and the United
Methodist Women of the Church.
Mrs. James was predeceased by her husband Joseph Parmalee James; her
son, Joseph Norton James; her parents; her siblings, Margaret Reese,
Boyd Johnson, Grier Johnson, Edgar Johnson, Jack Johnson, Rebecca
Howell, Bessie Hucks, Julia Land, and several nieces and nephews.
She is survived by her daughter Karen James Foxworth (Bill), her
daughter-in-law Sandra James-Hood; her grandchildren, William Preston
Foxworth IV (Tiffany), Jean Trenholm Foxworth, Joseph Lee James, and
Thomas Buchanan James (Abby); her great-grandchildren, William Preston
Foxworth V, and Kennedy Davis Foxworth; many special nieces and
nephews; and her caregiver and friend, Phenesia Scott.
Betty, lovingly known as BB, sprinkled a little love and kindness to
everyone and everywhere. She dearly loved her family and friends.
She will be remembered and missed as a devoted daughter, sister, wife,
mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend.
A celebration of life will be held at First United Methodist Church of
Conway on Tuesday, September 10, 2024. The family will receive
visitors at 2:00 in the Commons Area of First United Methodist Church.
The funeral service will be held at 3:00 in the Sanctuary and a burial
will follow at Hillcrest Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First United Methodist
Church, 1001 Fifth Avenue, Conway, SC 29526.
