In loving memory of our beloved Mother, Betty Kinsey
It is with heavy hearts and deep love that we announce the passing of our cherished mother and grandmother.
Betty Kinsey passed from this life into eternity at her home on Monday, May 19, 2025.
Born to the late Clebert and Mary Mangum of Hatley on April 29, 1935. The only granddaughter of the late Leonard and Ludie Mangum. She grew up with strong roots in her community and graduated from Hatley school in 1956. Shortly after, she and her best friend Sally Jones moved to Memphis Tennessee where she met and married Charles Kinsey and shared 53 years together. In 1959, they returned to Hatley, where they built their forever home, a place that would become the heart of countless family memories. They raised three children: Van, Tiawana, and Melanie and had five grandchildren: Shaun, Brittany, Cory, Glenn, and Jessica. Shaun and Cory are the sons of the late Van Kinsey, Brittany, Glenn, and Jessica, the children of Tiawana and the late Micky Ausbon and James Reese. Four Great- grandchildren: KK, Daniel, Isabella, and Colton. She was a faithful member of Hatley Missionary Baptist Church, serving in her younger years as pianist. She enjoyed all the activities that her grands were involved in whether it be taking them to softball, school activities, church activities and all the in between. She loved spending time with family and friends and preparing large, delicious meals that brought everyone together. The love of family extended to every detail of her life, from her well-kept yard and beautiful flowers to the way she nurtured everyone around her.
In 1974 with determination and courage, she returned to school to pursue a nursing degree, seeking to secure a better future for herself and family. She went on to work at Aberdeen Hospital until her retirement, serving others with compassion and care throughout her career.
To her children, she was simply “Mama”, to her grandchildren, she was lovingly known as “maw maw” and to all who knew her, she was a light, steady, loving presence who gave selflessly and loved deeply.
Her legacy lives on in the lessons she taught, the love she shared and the lives she touched. We will miss her giving heart and the comfort of her presence every single day.
