Betty McIntyre Obituary

Heaven has gained another Angel with the passing of Betty Jane McIntyre of Laurel, Delaware on Saturday, August 23, 2025.

Born as Betty Jane Long on February 27, 1942, in Salisbury, MD; she was the daughter of the late Margaret Merritt Wilson of Delmar, DE and the late George Long of Cape Charles, VA.

Growing up in the Salisbury/Fruitland, MD area as a teenager, she would attend dances at the Red Men's Lodge where she would meet the love of her life; Harvey Roy McIntyre, who she would marry at the age of 15 and proceed to build and enjoy their lives together for 67 years.

While raising her two daughters, she worked at Gants Shirt Factory and Salisbury Manufacturing. Once the factories faded away, she made herself and her family proud when she proceeded to obtain her GED receiving her high school diploma and then proceeded to attend Wor-Wic Community College. She then worked with Filtronic Comtech where she would retire as a Quality Control Specialist. During retirement, she would then be employed semi-part time until her passing with EZ Loans in Millsboro, DE just to keep her busy.

Her artistic abilities were amazing as she could draw anything yet did not pursue that passion in life. In addition to drawing, her sewing abilities were magnificent as she could make anything which would include several prom dresses for her daughters and their friends. She was pretty good with a pair of scissors and shaver as the young and adult men in the neighborhood would always come to her for a haircut.

She enjoyed spending time with family and friends reminiscing about days gone by, going to the Casino's or local lodges to play slots, taking care of her pets Samantha (Sheltie) and Suzie (cat) in addition to the feral cat's that chose to live in the backyard which recently included three turkey buzzards which she got a kick out of watching as Sam would round them all up for dinner daily. She would always lend an ear and give advice yet was also quick to praise or adjust an attitude when needed.

Betty is lovingly remembered by her daughters, Terry Jones (Patrick) of Salisbury, MD and Tammy Adkins (John) of Bishopville, MD, and Brother & Sister In-Laws, Roy, and Sandy Long (Severna Park, MD. She lives on through the joys and accomplishments of her grandchildren; Tiffany Ann Garris, William Harvey Jones (Victoria), Alyssa Spencer (Cory) and Caleb Adkins; Treasured Great Grandchildren; Caden Robert Shaner, Cameron Dean Shaner, Olan Michael Jones, Harvey Alexander Jones and Lola Jane Spencer in addition to numerous Nieces and Nephews. Her warm presence will also be greatly missed by her furry companions; Sam, her Sheltie and Suzie, her cat.

Preceding Betty in death was her loving husband Harvey Roy McIntyre, Mother and Step- Father Margaret & Bill Wilson, her first-born infant daughter; Tammy Sue McIntyre and her sibling, George Long (Rebecca). Sister- in- laws; Mildred Curtis (Charlie), Frances Walters (Bill), Misty Wise, Judy Todd (Dickie), brother- in -law, Billy McIntyre, In Laws Cora McIntyre & Kenneth Mariner and Howard McIntyre.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, September 14th, 2025, from 1-4 PM at the Red Men's Lodge, Clyde Street, Fruitland, MD.
