She was born on June 28, 1953, in Bagley, Minnesota, the daughter of Arthur Sr. and Hulda (Grytbak) Olson. Betty graduated from Clearbrook High School in 1971.

In the early 1990s, Betty married Leonard Wettengate, and they later divorced. She eventually returned to Minnesota to care for her brother, Clayton, and to be closer to family and friends. Betty loved being back in the country, enjoying a peaceful life and reconnecting with her roots.

On June 29, 1996, she married Christian Merseth. Through this marriage, Betty was blessed with three stepchildren: Travis, Dustin, and Melanie.

Betty enjoyed gardening, sewing, cooking, and garage sale shopping. She was a devoted and active member of Our Savior's Church, where she found great joy in serving others and strengthening her faith.

She is survived by her daughter, Tammy Jo Scholl of Clearbrook, Minnesota; her son, Brian Scholl of Kansas; step-sons, Travis and Dustin Merseth; step-daughter, Melanie Schmidt; many nieces and nephews; 11 grandchildren; and 4 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Arthur Sr. and Hulda Olson, and her husband, Christian Merseth.
