Betty Palmatier passed away on October 16, 2025 at her home in Murrells Inlet, SC, surrounded by loving family. She was 83 years old. Betty was born on April 11, 1942 to the late James and Gladys Smith.
On November 15, 1959, she married her loving husband Thomas Palmatier at St. Mary, Our Lady of the Falls in Wappingers Falls. She was the most wonderful wife a man could ask for; Tom survives at home.
Before moving to Murrells Inlet, South Carolina for the past 20 years, Tom and Betty traveled the country in their RV for several years with their beloved dog Nicky. Before that, they resided in Chelsea and Fishkill New York for most of their lives.
Betty was a very loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, friend and daughter who was guided by her faith in God and always tried to see the positive in everything and everyone. She loved her family dearly and cherished the time she got to spend with them.
Betty loved quilting and feeding her beloved birds every morning, especially her cardinals and hummingbirds. She also loved watching figure skating, golf, tennis, bowling and listening to gospel, Christian music and the oldies. She was a league member at the Southern Dutchess Bowl in New York. She and Tom loved to go boating, spending time on the water whenever they could.
In New York, Betty was a parishioner at St. Mary, Mother of the Church in Fishkill. In South Carolina, she became a parishioner at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Murrells Inlet. She was a Eucharistic Minister who would take Communion to the homebound. Her faith in God and love of Jesus was strong until she drew her last breath on earth.
In addition to her beloved husband Thomas Palmatier, she is survived by her loving children: Cheryl Palmatier of SC, Michael Palmatier of NY, James and Lori Palmatier of NY, Anjanette and David Milletics of NY and her loving daughter in law Cathy Palmatier Wells; her grandchildren: Duane and Jen Palmatier of CO, Anthony and Alex Palmatier of NY, Chrystal Baker of SC, Nicole Baker of NY, Jake Palmatier of NY, as well as Lorna Schlegal of CO; her great-grandchildren: Hailey Burger of KS and Jehani Arline of NY; her siblings: Robert Smith of NY, Wendy and Alex Ahmed of NY, Marty and Carol Smith of SC; her sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Helene and Bill Wendell of FL, as well as and many nieces, nephews, godson and friends.
In addition to her parents, Betty was predeceased by her son Thomas Palmatier Jr, her grandson Darren Palmatier, her mother-in-law and father-in-law, Duane and Helen Palmatier and her sister-in-law Sheila Smith.
Visitation will be held from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm on Saturday, November 8 at the McHoul Funeral Home of Fishkill, Inc., 1089 Main Street,
Fishkill, NY. A memorial service will begin at 3:00 pm.
