Ilda C. Miranda

Ilda C. Miranda, residente de Newburgh, Nueva York, durante 44 años y anteriormente residente de Ecuador, falleció el martes 2 de diciembre de 2025 en el Hospital Northern Westchester de Mount Kisco, Nueva York. Tenía 86 años.

Hija de los fallecidos Alcides Miranda y Ángela Alarcón, nació en Pungala, Ecuador el 1 de mayo de 1939. En 1981, emigró de Riobamba, Ecuador a los Estados Unidos.

Ilda creció en Ecuador, donde la vida era dura y su infancia breve. Desde muy joven, trabajó incansablemente: lavaba ropa a mano en el río, acarreaba agua del río a casa, cocinaba en una estufa de leña y cultivaba papas. Viajó a caballo por la Cordillera de los Andes. Era perseverante, decidida e inquebrantable. Cabalgando con el viento.

Huyendo de una cultura machista y de un país económicamente corrupto, hizo sacrificios que solo una mujer valiente podía hacer. Uno de los mayores fue dejar a sus hijos para venir a los Estados Unidos, con la promesa de una vida mejor. Trabajó incansablemente en tres empleos para algún día poder traerlos. Trabajó en varias fábricas, como la fabricación de carteras y árboles de Navidad. También trabajó empacando carne, cuidando niños y como empleada de limpieza. En 1995, se jubiló de IBM como conserje en la empresa en East Fishkill, Nueva York. Cuando finalmente reunió a su familia en Estados Unidos, asumió la responsabilidad de ser madre y padre, dando todo lo que tenía para que sus hijos tuvieran las oportunidades que ella nunca tuvo.

Su sonrisa era dulce y sincera; todos los que la conocían no podían evitar sonreírle y amarla. Estaba increíblemente orgullosa de su herencia ecuatoriana y le encantaba preparar la gastronomía de su país y compartirla con familiares y amigos.

Amaba profundamente a todos sus nietos. Todos le llenaban el corazón de alegría. Rezaba por todos ellos y por sus hijos, nombrándolos uno por uno, cada noche. No conducía ni tenía muchos lujos, pero aprovechaba cada momento. Uno de los momentos más memorables fue caminar con sus nietos hasta el río para alimentar a los pájaros, enseñándoles valores con sus acciones: bondad, generosidad, paciencia y amor.

Tenía talentos secretos que muchos de nosotros no descubrimos hasta mucho más tarde en su vida, como su hermosa habilidad para tejer.

Su mayor deseo era simple pero profundo: que todos se llevaran bien y se amaran, especialmente en su familia. Su legado es el amor, la hospitalidad y un espíritu amable que reconfortaba a quienes la rodeaban.

Le sobreviven su hijo, Edgar Mendoza y su esposa Norma de Newburgh, NY; su hijo, Edwin Mendoza y su esposa Pamela de Highland, NY; su hija, Lilian Mendoza de Newburgh, NY; su hija, Alexandra Medina Wood y su esposo James de Highland, NY; sus nietos: George Cuadrado, Yessenia Cuadrado Neri y su esposo Alfredo, Tatiana Mendoza, Edwin Mendoza, Gabriel Mendoza, Madison Wood, Kassandra Wood y Triana Mendoza; sus bisnietos: Jaiden Cuadrado, Owen Cuadrado, Geovani Cuadrado, Rose Mary Cuadrado, Emma Neri y Mia Slomin; su ex yerno Jorge Cuadrado; su hermana, María Beatriz Sulca y su esposo Oswaldo; su hermana, Rosa Miranda; así como muchas sobrinas, sobrinos e innumerables otros amorosos familiares.

Además de sus padres, a Ilda también le precedió en la muerte su hermano, Ricardo Miranda.

El velorio se llevará a cabo de 1:00pm a 4:00pm el domingo 7 de diciembre en la funeraria McHoul Funeral Home de Fishkill, Inc. 1089 Main Street, Fishkill, Nueva York. El servicio fúnebre comenzará a las 11:00am. del lunes 8 de diciembre en la funeraria. A continuación, el entierro se realizará en el Cementerio de San Joaquín, ubicado en 325 Washington Avenue, Beacon, NY.

Ilda C. Miranda, a 44-year resident of Newburgh, NY and formerly of Ecuador, passed away on Tuesday, December 2, 2025 at Northern Westchester Hospital in Mount Kisco, NY. She was 86.

Daughter of the late Alcides Miranda and Angela Alarcon, she was born in Pungala, Ecuador on May 1, 1939. In 1981, she emigrated from Riobamba, Ecuador to the United States.

Ilda grew up in Ecuador, where life was hard and childhood was brief. From a very young age, she worked tirelessly-washing clothes by hand at the river, carrying drinking water from the river to home, cooking on a wooden stove, and farming potatoes. She traveled by horse through the Andes Mountains. She was resilient, determined, and unbreakable riding with the wind.

Fleeing from a machismo culture and economically corrupted country she made sacrifices only a courageous woman could make. One of the greatest was leaving her children behind to come to the United States, for the promise of a better life. She worked tirelessly in three jobs so that one day she could bring them. She worked in a few factories such as making purses, making Christmas trees, etc. Other jobs she did was packing meat, babysitting, and as a cleaning lady. In 1995, she retired from IBM as a custodian at the company's site in East Fishkill, NY. When she finally reunited her family in the U.S., she carried the responsibility of being both mother and father, giving everything she had so her children could have opportunities she never did.

Her smile was warm and genuine, everyone who met her couldn't help but smile back and love her. She was incredibly proud of her Ecuadorian heritage and loved making her home country's cuisine and sharing it with family & friends.

She loved all her grandchildren deeply. They all made her heart burst with joy. She prayed for all of them and her children naming them individually, every evening. She didn't drive and didn't have much luxury but she made every moment count. One of the most memorable moments was walking with her grandchildren to the river to feed the birds, teaching them values through her actions-kindness, generosity, patience, and love.

She had secret talents that many of us didn't discover until much later in her life, such as her beautiful skill in knitting.

Her greatest wish was simple yet profound: for everyone to get along and love one another, especially within her family. Her legacy is love, hospitality, and a gentle spirit that brought comfort to everyone around her.

Survivors include her son, Edgar Mendoza & his wife Norma of Newburgh, NY; her son, Edwin Mendoza & his wife Pamela of Highland, NY; her daughter, Lilian Mendoza of Newburgh, NY; her daughter, Alexandra Medina Wood & her husband James of Highland, NY; her grandchildren: George Cuadrado, Yessenia Cuadrado Neri & her husband Alfredo, Tatiana Mendoza, Edwin Mendoza, Gabriel Mendoza, Madison Wood, Kassandra Wood and Triana Mendoza; her great-grandchildren: Jaiden Cuadrado, Owen Cuadrado, Geovani Cuadrado, Rose Mary Cuadrado, Emma Neri and Mia Slomin; her ex-son-in-law Jorge Cuadrado; her sister, Maria Beatriz Sulca & her husband Oswaldo; her sister, Rosa Miranda; as well as many nieces, nephews, and countless other loving family members.

In addition to her parents, Ilda was also predeceased by her brother, Ricardo Miranda.

Calling hours will be held from 1:00pm to 4:00pm on Sunday, December 7 at the McHoul Funeral Home of Fishkill, Inc., 1089 Main Street, Fishkill, NY. A funeral service will begin at 11:00am on Monday, December 8 at the funeral home. Interment will follow at St. Joachim Cemetery, 325 Washington Avenue, Beacon, NY.
