Betty Mae Evens Pefley, age 96 of Manistee, passed away peacefully on Tuesday April 11, 2023, at Manistee County Medical Care Facility.
She was born on July 17, 1926, in Bear Lake, Michigan, the daughter of the late Darwin and Wealthy (Norconk) Evens. Betty married Robert "Bob" Pefley on February 14, 1947, at the United Methodist Church in Manistee and they shared 61 years together before Bob's passing on August 18, 2008.
Betty enjoyed cooking for her family, quilting, and painting a special picture for anyone who asked. She was also an avid gardener.
Betty is survived by her children Peggy (Bill) Volkema of East Lake, Tom (Jeanne) Pefley of Manistee, Lee Pefley of Manistee, Lynn (Earl) Kimbrel of Davenport, Florida, Mari (Dennis) Manke of East Lake, Amy (Al) Baldwin of Pentwater; sister-in-law Judy Pefley; 23 grandchildren, 50 great-grandchildren, and 13 great great-grandchildren as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Bob, son Jim Pefley, daughter-in-law Diane Laskey Pefley, granddaughters Dana and Kelly, and her sister Jean O'Dell.
The family would like to say a special thank you to the Manistee County Medical Care Facility staff for their loving care.
A memorial service is being planned for July 1, 2023.
