Betty Avera Powell, a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on Friday, March 13th, 2026, at the age of 87. Born on Thursday, August 25th, 1938, in Blakely, Georgia, Betty was a cherished resident of Arlington, GA, where she spent her later years surrounded by family and friends.
Betty dedicated her life to caring for others, working as a registered nurse. Her compassion and dedication touched the lives of many, both in her professional career and personal life. She was a devoted member of the Bainbridge Methodist Church and attended the Arlington Methodist Church when her health allowed.
Betty is survived by her loving children: Raymond Lee Powell Jr. (Angel) of Bainbridge, GA, Christopher Torrey Powell (Shannon) of Leesburg, GA, and Joshua Joel Powell (Marcia) of Arlington, GA. She was a proud grandmother to Marianna Powell, Marissa Powell, Dallas Rogers, Ethan Powell, Madison Powell, and Harrison Powell, and a great-grandmother to Garrison Rogers. Betty is also survived by her dear sisters, Carolyn Wilkins (Edward) of Edison, GA, and Ouida Tedder of Leesburg, GA, as well as several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Raymond Avera and Annie Lou Avera, and her beloved husband, Raymond Lee Powell Sr. Betty's brothers, Ralph Avera and Ray Avera, also preceded her in death.
A visitation will be held at Manry-Jordan-Hodges Funeral Home on Thursday, March 19th, 2026, from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm. Funeral services will be conducted at the Manry Jordan Hodges Funeral Home Chapel on Friday, March 20th, 2026, at 11:00 am, officiated by Rev. Tony Mock. Interment will be at Oak Grove Cemetery in Arlington, Ga. Pallbearers will include Dallas Rogers, Ethan Powell, Jacob Brown, and Scott Cloud.
Arrangements are being handled by Manry-Jordan-Hodges Funeral Home. Betty's family extends their heartfelt gratitude to all who have offered their support and condolences during this difficult time.
Betty Avera Powell will be remembered for her unwavering love, kindness, and dedication to her family and community. Her legacy of compassion and service will continue to inspire all who knew her.
