I never met but felt I knew Betty. She "discovered" my Valdres family for which I will always be grateful.

I wish I could have met Betty; unfortunately, I had to find out about her death on Google. I ordered E. Palmer's book, "Per," and just read it yesterday. It's the first time I've ever seen my last name, "Rocksvold" ever coming into formation! Aren't computers wonderful? I know Betty is in heaven, looking down on all of us down here!

My sympathy to Betty's family. She helped me with my family research in Valdres, Norway. She gave so much of herself to helping others. She was a wonderful lady and will be missed.

It is with great sadness to learn of Betty's passing. A kind, patient and honorable woman, she assisted so many of us with our Valdres, Oppland County, Norway research.
Several years ago, while Betty was still the genealogist for the Valdres Samband, she invited me to her house to use the samband's "genealogy library." What a gold mine for me! I also learned that day that Betty was the grandmother of Paige, Cara and Joel - former high school students of mine!
My sympathy goes out to Palmer, the rest of Betty's family and her many dear friends. May the wonderful memories of her bring you some peace during this difficult time.
Tusen takk for alt, Betty! You will be sadly missed.

I would like to offer my sympathy to the family. Betty was a great help as I began researching my Valdres genealogy and I was happy to have been able to later meet her several times at stevner.

I was formerly the genealogist for the Vestlandslag so would see Betty at Norwegian-related genealogy events. She was always an "up" person and I'm happy to have known her. My sincere sympathies go to her family.

I am so sorry to hear of the loss of Betty Rockswold. She was so instrumental in my early years of research of Norwegian ancestors. May the thoughts and prayers of all who knew and loved her be with you during this time.

Please our accept our sincere condolances in the loss of your wife, mother, and amazing friend. Before we had even met Betty personally,we sent her a brief written request. What we received was so much more than one could ever dream of. We had pages and pages of notes plus a huge 4'x4' chart on our ancestral lines. She worked tirelessly and without any expectancy of any monetary rewards or personal recognition. We were soo overwhelmed with gratitude that I immediately dubbed her my "Fairy Godmother" and sent her flowers in thanks of a wonderful gesture that was done out of pure love for people and a love of genealogy. My husband and I will always remember the gentle and so very patient "Lady" named Betty. She inspired so many of us genealogy newbies, and was loved by all who knew her. Indeed, the world is a better place because of her. We will miss her deeply as I know all of you will.
Sincerely,

My sympathy to Betty's family and friends. She was a generous person. I posted a simple query on the Samband website regarding my Norwegian great-grandparents.
Back came a simple offer of research assistance. In exchange for membership in the Samband, Betty researched and prepared a multi-generation Valdres pedigree chart. It was a wonderful, unexpected gift. I am forever grateful to Betty for the legacy of family history she passed on to me.

We first met Betty at the Seven Lag Stevne in Wahpeton, ND in about 1985 as a member of Totenlag. She welcomed us and was a perfectly charming lady. We saw her almost every year at the Stevne in the intervening years and will miss that delight in the future, until we meet again in the mansions on high.

My sympathy to the family. Betty was so thorough when doing my geneaology chart and offered a great deal of humor at it's conclusion. She had such a generous spirit!

Betty was a long time and very good friend to my mother, Shirley (Holzapfel) Theel, father (Fred) and step father (Bob Theel). They had many similar interests, good times together and travels. There are many family memories. Betty's parents VN & Ruthie were almost like grandparents to me growing up. She was a wonderful, joyful person that always found the glass half full. She will be missed by many. Our sympathy goes out to the whole family. Even though Alzhiemer's is taking away much of my mother, when told of Betty's passing she remembered many good times. Our best to all.
