Betty J. Root, 92, formerly of Robesonia, passed away Tuesday, May 16, 2023 at Stone Ridge Towne Center. She was the wife of the late Kernel H. Root who passed away Sept. 26, 1988.
Betty, a daughter of the late Jeremiah and Mary (Kalbach) Houck, was born in Reading. She is survived by four children, Dennis L. Root (Maryann), Timothy R. Root, Barbara L. Fidler (Dennis), Sandra A. Lutz (widow of Richard G. Lutz, Jr.); two brothers, Rodney Houck, and Harry Houck; a sister, Gloria Houck; six grandchildren, Michele Grumbine (Daryl), Brian Fidler (Theresa), Tanya Turner (Chris), Chad Fidler (Marcie), Sonja Coulter (Robert), Darren Fidler (Mandy), and 14 great grandchildren; and a step great grandchild. She was preceded in death by a son, Robert K. Root; five sisters, Mabel Houck Sarah Ulrich, Ruth Buckholz, Mary Hahn, and Patricia Balczak; and nine brothers, Clarence, Jeremiah, Paul, Donald, Ronald, Richard, Harold, Robert, and John Houck.
She was a member of Christ Lutheran Church, Stouchsburg.
She enjoyed playing bingo and puzzles and was always there for her family when they needed her.
Betty retired from Ocello Garment Factory, having previously worked for Caron Spinning in Robesonia for many years.
Services will be held at 10:30 AM, Saturday, May 20th, at Lamm & Witman Funeral Home, 243 W. Penn Ave., Wernersville. A viewing will be held from 9:30-10:30 AM, Saturday, at the funeral home. Burial will be in Christ Lutheran Church Cemetery.
Flowers are welcome or memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 225 N. Michigan Ave., Fl. 17, Chicago, IL 60601.
