Pawnee - Betty Jean Schnapp, 90, of Pawnee, Illinois, died Monday, May 12, 2025, at Hillsboro Rehabilitation and Health Care Center in Hillsboro. Betty was born Sept. 3, 1934, in Pawnee, the daughter of George W. and Golda R. Brawner Matthew. She was preceded in death by her parents; three sisters, Mary Ginder, Marjorie Jones and Mildred Kessler.
Betty was a lifelong member of Pawnee United Methodist Church and a 1952 graduate of Pawnee High School. She retired from the Illinois Department of Natural Resources in 1997 after 26½ years of service. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Peter Meyer Chapter in Taylorville, Pawnee Order of the Eastern Star #436 and the Purple Posies Red Hat Society of Pawnee. Betty loved reading, visiting the Pawnee Public Library and going to the movies with her friends.
Betty is survived by her two sons, Donald G. Schnapp of Pawnee and David L. (wife, Bonnie) Schnapp of Yuma, Arizonia; four grandchildren, Jennifer, Jamie, Trevor and Haley; five great-grandchildren; one niece; and one nephew.
Betty's family will meet friends from 10 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 11 a.m. Friday, May 16, 2025, at Pawnee United Methodist Church in Pawnee, with Rev. Chuck Kurfman officiating. Burial will follow at Horse Creek Cemetery in Pawnee.
Memorials honoring Betty may be made to Pawnee United Methodist Church, 402 Sixth St., Pawnee, IL 62558 or to the Pawnee Public Library, 613 Douglas St., Pawnee, IL 62558.
