AUBURN - Betty A. Schroeder, 94, passed away peacefully on Friday, June 20, 2025, at her Auburn home.
She was born on Oct. 1, 1930, in Decatur, Indiana, to Carl and Elsie (Roembke) Heckman.
She was a 1948 graduate of Ossian High School.
Betty was a homemaker and took great pride in raising her family. She also worked as a switchboard operator at Parkview Memorial Hospital in Fort Wayne for five years. She then worked as a computer operator at the W.T. Grant Warehouse in New Haven for 15 years and for Food Marketing in Fort Wayne for 18 years, retiring in 1993.
Betty also volunteered her time to help others at DeKalb Health for 20 years.
She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Auburn, and she enjoyed participating in water aerobics at the YMCA for several years. Most of all, Betty loved spending time with her family. She especially enjoyed attending all of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren's events and activities.
Survivors include her daughters and son-in-law, Becky and Dan Schmidt, of Auburn and Beth Gerardot of Auburn; sons and daughters-in-law, John and Norma Schroeder, of Fort Wayne and Jim and Susan Schroeder, of Westfield, Indiana; 12 grandchildren and their spouses, Andy and Stacy Schmidt, Mary and Ryan Maxfield, Anna and Bryan Marr, Amy Bradford, Ben and Vanessa Schroeder, Philip and Melanie Schroeder, Luke and Angela Schroeder, Nick and Stephanie Schroeder, Joe Schroeder, Max Schroeder and Ellie Schroeder; 27 great-grandchildren; sister and brother-in-law, Donna and Noel Fenner, of Cincinnati, Ohio; sister-in-law, Laura Heckman, of Fort Wayne; her special friend, Bill Amburn, who would visit Betty often; and many nieces, nephews and other extended family members.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents; granddaughter, Sarah Baker; grandson, Will Schroeder; brother and sister-in-law, Maurice and Barb Heckman; and sister and brother-in-law, Imogene and Gilbert Bultemeier.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, June 26, 2025, from 9-11 a.m., at Trinity Lutheran Church, 1801 N. Main St., in Auburn.
Funeral services will be held following the visitation on Thursday at 11 a.m., at the church, with Pastor Jonathan Nack officiating.
Burial will take place at a later date at Covington Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Fort Wayne.
