Shoup, Betty Jane - Age 71, of Flint, passed away at home, November 7, 2025. Betty was born January 13, 1954 in Flint, Michigan. She married her high school sweetheart, Timothy Kenneth Shoup, on May 19, 1973. They shared a beautiful life together and grew their family tree by adopting their daughter, Allison Darlene (Shoup) Hillaker and son Lawren Timothy Shoup. The tree branches continued to grow as she became “Grams-bear” to Jeremiah, Levi, Julia (Hillaker) and Samuel (Shoup). Her family was her pride and joy. Her face lit up around her husband, children and grandchildren. Some of her fondest moments were shared on vacations, dinners, parties and just simply spending quality time with her family. She devoted her life to being a Proverbs 31 wife and mother and a 2 Timothy 1 grandmother. Her family has risen up to call her blessed, and will deeply miss her hugs, kisses, laughter and encouragement. Betty had the gift of giving. Her tender heart showed compassion to anyone and everyone she met. But, not only did she give money, gifts and time – most importantly she gave the gospel of Jesus Christ to every soul she encountered. She called herself “sister Paulette,” taking after the apostle Paul. Her conversations always pointed back to the saving grace of Jesus Christ. While her family deeply mourns her absence, they rejoice with great confidence that she is before the throne of God – singing his praises there, just as she was always heard doing while here on earth.
While Betty is walking the streets of gold, she leaves behind her husband, Timothy Kenneth Shoup of Flint; two children Allison (Josiah) Hillaker of Grand Blanc, Lawren (Elizabeth) Shoup of Birch Run and four grandchildren: Jeremiah, Levi and Julia Hillaker and Samuel Shoup. She also leaves behind two brothers, Gordon Allison Jr. and Scott (Sharon) Allison, along with beloved nieces and nephews. Everywhere she went she was loved – and therefore will also be missed by numerous friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Gordon and Barbara (McDaniel) Allison and brother Troy Allison.
Visitation will be held Monday, November 10, 2025 from 3:00pm to 8:00pm at Sharp Funeral Home in Swartz Creek. A visitation will also be held on Tuesday, November 11, 20205 at 10:00am at North Baptist Church with the funeral following at 11:00am (4004 Lennon Rd., Flint, MI 48507). A burial ceremony will take place at Crestwood Cemetery (2020 E. Hill Rd. Grand Blanc, MI 48439) following the funeral. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Flint Crisis Resource Center, a mission she volunteered at and supported out of her love for children and adoption.
