Betty Lou Shumway

Betty Lou Shumway of Ridgecrest CA passed away quietly on November 12, 2025, at the age of 98. She was born on March 2, 1927, in Bellflower, CA. She married Gordon Shumway on September 28, 1945, was married for 66 years and raised three children. In the summer of 1962, the Shumway family relocated to Ridgecrest when her husband took a job as a contractor and eventually retired as a civil servant. Betty worked for two Dentists, Dr. Washburn and Dr. Hansen for a total of 13years. Betty was an avid reader, especially history. She was a committed member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints where she held many church leadership positions. She is survived by her son Brian Shumway (Rena) of Tehachapi CA; her daughter Anita Walraven (Rex) of Ridgecrest; and son-in-law Scott Forbes of Ridgecrest. She is also survived by nine grandchildren and twenty great grandchildren. Betty was preceded in death by her husband Gordon Shumway and daughter Vickie Forbes.

A viewing will be held at Holland & Lyons Mortuary on Thursday, November 20th from 10:30 am to 12:30pm.                                                               A private family graveside service will follow.  

A Memorial service will be held Friday, November 21st at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints at 11:00am  at 501 N. Norma Street.
