Betty Jane Ware, 81 of Shaftsbury, VT passed away peacefully at her home on April 13, 2023, surrounded by her husband and children.
Betty was the first baby born on New Year's Day in Bennington, 1942, to Edward and Ruth (Elwell) Myers. She was raised in Shaftsbury, VT. She married Roy Robert Ware on July 11, 1959, at the St. John Baptist Catholic Church in North Bennington, VT.
Betty was a graduate of North Bennington High School in 1959. She played softball and field hockey as well as glee club and was the Captain of the Majorettes and a cheerleader. She enjoyed line dancing but most importantly spending time with her family.
In Betty's earlier years, she worked at Carol's Restaurant and then had a variety of jobs in production work. Her greatest joy was working with children.
Betty is survived by her husband Roy of 63 years, her four children, Susan Ramey (Freeman) of Sweeden, KY, Rebecca Dickie (Terry) of Shaftsbury, VT, Michael Ware (Rebecca) of Shaftsbury, VT, and James Ware (Elaine) of Pownal, VT, 16 grandchildren,14 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild; two sisters, Nancy Sausville of Ballston Spa NY, Kimberly Mayer of Shaftsbury, VT, and a brother John Myers of Shaftsbury, VT and several nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her mother and father, Ruth and Edward Myers, her brother Edward (Brud) Myers, and sister Faye Baker.
Calling hours will be Wednesday, April 26th from 11:00 am-1:00 pm with a service to follow at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Alzheimer's Foundation of America through the office of the Mahar & Son Funeral Home.
