Betty J. Wennberg (Nyborg), 86, of Bristol, widow of Donald T. Wennberg passed away on Thursday, September 26, 2024 at Plainville Health Care Center Inc. in Plainville.
She was born March 31, 1938, in New Britain, and grew up in Newington before moving to Bristol. She was the daughter of the late Oscar and Beatrice (Welles) Nyborg. She worked in HR at Royal Typewriter, GF Business Furniture Systems Sales and retired from Cigna, where she worked as a claim processer. She was a longtime member of the First Congregational Church in Bristol, enjoying countless social events and serving on committees along with her church friends. She enjoyed the outdoors, gardening and tending to her flowers in the yard or going on a fishing trip. At home, she was always baking something, cookies, cakes or other sweets ready to serve to her many guests. She also had a love for collecting antique tea cups and dolls, which gave her joy. Always a loyal Newington High Alumni, she and her friends planned the many Class of 1956 reunions.
She is survived by her son Douglas, of Bristol; two grandchildren, Kimberly Wennberg and her husband, Scott, of Bristol and Kira (Wennberg) Avery and her companion Trevor, of Marlborough; three great-grandchildren, Cameron, Barry and Rilee; along with several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Donald, son Bruce and brothers, Donald Nyborg and Warren Nyborg.
Our family would like to give thanks to the entire staff of Plainville Health Care Center Inc. for the loving and compassionate care that Betty received. Special thanks to the Recreational Department and the South One Nursing and CNA staff for their loving, compassionate and professional care.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, October 1, 2024 at 11 a.m. at the First Congregational Church of Bristol. Burial will be in Peacedale Cemetery. Calling hours are Monday evening from 5 - 7 p.m. at Erickson-Hansen Funeral Home of Berlin, 111 Chamberlain Hwy., Berlin.
