Betty A. Wheeler
Died February 6, 2023
OMENA – Betty Ann Wheeler, 91, formerly of Omena, passed away on Monday, February 6, 2023 at Silver Lake Serenity AFC.
Betty was born January 30, 1932 in Chicago, IL the daughter of Fred and Geneva (Gibbons) Graves. On July 29, 1950 in Chicago she married Herbert "Bert" J. Wheeler who preceded her in death on June 16, 2021.
She was a long-time bowler and crocheter all her married life of 70 plus years. Betty always said her entertainment was the casino. She had quite the luck of the horseshoe at the casino and also enjoyed bingo and cards. Betty did many jobs over the years and they came to Omena to run Bert's Country Store where they lived for 40 years until moving to Traverse City.
Betty was always sewing or crocheting something for family and friends. There was always an outfit, baby blanket, Afghan and of course, Christmas stocking for all. She was kind, loving, giving and above all both were fair in raising their three children.
Betty is survived by her three children, Sue (Mike) Moore, Jan (Steve) Nyland, Bob (Kori) Wheeler; a sister, Margie Neese; her grandchildren, Ryan, Erin, Courtney, Kyle, Michael, Rusty, Ashley, Whitney, Rachel, and Melanie; twenty-four great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband, Bert; two siblings, Mary Moscato and Fred Graves; and a great granddaughter, Aubree Mae Nyland.
A celebration of Betty's life and urn burial in Omena Hillcrest Cemetery will be announced at a later date.
Memorials may be directed to Cowell Family Cancer Center, 217 S. Madison Street, Traverse City, MI 49684.
