Betty Jean Winstead

Betty Jean Winstead, age 82, of Dyersburg, TN, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 7, 2025, at Maple Ridge Assisted Living Center.

Born on July 12, 1943, in Latham, TN, she was the beloved daughter of the late Rob and Effie Mae Johnson Hawks. Betty was a dedicated homemaker who found joy in boating, camping, and gardening. Her adventurous spirit was evident in her love for racing cars. A devoted member of Hillcrest Baptist Church, she was passionate about missionary work and cherished her time spent with family, especially her grandchildren.

Services will be at 12 p.m. Tuesday, October 14, 2025 in the chapel of Dyersburg Funeral Home with Rev. Lynn King officiating. Burial will be in Unity Baptist Church Cemetery in Dresden, TN. The family will receive visitors beginning at 10 a.m. until service time at the funeral home.

Survivors include her two sons, Dennis Winstead (Shirley) of Dyersburg, TN and Bobby Winstead of Newbern, TN; a brother, David Joe Hawks of Farmington, KY; a sister, Sarah Jones of Paris, TN; three grandchildren, Kim Sipes (Chad), Josh Winstead, and Jeremy Winstead (Cameron); and two great-grandchildren, Riley Sipes and Gavin Sipes.

In addition to her parents, Betty was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Billy Lee Winstead; nine brothers; seven sisters; and a great-grandson, Willie Jay Winstead.

Serving as pallbearers will be Josh Winstead, Jeremy Winstead, Cameron Billman, Chad Sipes and Gavin Sipes. Honorary pallbearer will be Timmy Jones.
