Betty Rainwater Yates, 88, peacefully passed away, surrounded by her daughters on Wednesday, May 21, 2025. She was born on March 21, 1937, in Rockingham, NC, to the late Billy Weldon and Lucy Grice Rainwater.
Betty was a faithful member of North Cheraw Baptist Church. She sang in the choir, played the piano and was involved on several church committees. Her church family always held a special place in her heart and were very important to her. After a fulfilling career at Cheraw Yarn Mill, she enjoyed spending her time cooking, gardening and delighting in the simple pleasures of life, including shopping and playing the piano. Above all, Betty treasured the moments spent with her family.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her devoted husband, Harrison Yates; her brothers, Zack Rainwater and Bill Rainwater; and her sister, Charlotte Mitchell.
Betty is survived by her daughters, Cindy Yates Sanderson (Greg) and Lisa Yates Davenport (Butch); her sisters, Vivian Freeman and Judy Walters; her grandchildren, Lindsey Sanderson Thomas (Chase) and Courtney Davenport; as well as her great-grandchildren, Brewer Thomas and Blaise Thomas.
A funeral service honoring Betty's life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 29, 2025, at North Cheraw Baptist Church, followed by burial at Chatham Hill Memorial Gardens.
The family invites friends to join them at the cemetery after the service and at other times at the home of Cindy Sanderson, located at 579 Coach Road, Cheraw, SC 29520.
