Betty Young

Betty Jean Young, age 89 of Burr Oak, Michigan, passed away peacefully Thursday morning, December 18, 2025, at Maple Lawn Medical Care Facility in Coldwater, Michigan.
She was born August 11, 1936, in Angola, Indiana, the cherished only child of Wilfred and Harriet (Shay) Nutt.
Betty made her home in Burr Oak for the past 70 years after moving from Bronson, where she graduated from Bronson High School with the class of 1954.
On March 26, 1955, she was united in marriage to Elmer Young at the Congregational Church in Bronson. Together they shared 70 years of marriage until his passing on June 10, 2025.
Betty worked for Union Products, but her greatest joy and proudest role was caring for her family as a devoted homemaker, wife, mother, and grandmother. She was a member of the Sturgis Church of Christ and the Colon Church of Christ.
She found happiness in ceramics, reading, cooking, and faithfully following NASCAR. Above all else, Betty treasured time spent with her family, creating a home filled with love, laughter, and care.
She leaves behind her loving daughters: Beth (Randy) Smoker of Colon, Shirley (Lloyd) Mallow of Bronson, Brenda Lackey of Dillon, Montana, Darlyn (Butch) Holbrook of Bronson, and Susie (Marty) Eldred of Marcellus; her grandchildren: Kendall (Casie) Smith, Jessica (Matt) Cossairt, Keri Carson, Chelsea (Gary) Riley, and Sarah (Kaleb) Laurie; and her adored great-grandchildren: Finnigan Carson, Felix Carson, Donovan Cossairt, Harley Cossairt, Gavin Laurie, and Ember Riley.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband, Elmer; her grandson, Adam Lackey; her son-in-law: Tom Lackey and her grandson-in-law, Nick Carson.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. Sunday, December 21, at Rosenberg Chapel of Hackman Family Funeral Homes, 807 E. Chicago Road in Sturgis, where a service celebrating Betty's life will immediately follow at 3:00 p.m. Pastor Tony Ferguson of Living Hope Fellowship Church will officiate. A graveside committal will follow at Burr Oak Cemetery.
