Bettye Thurman Obituary
Bettye Lou Thurman was born in Larue County, Hodgenville, Kentucky on Tuesday, May 24, 1932 to the late Augustus and Laura Bell Weathers Thurman.
She graduated from Bond Washington High School in Elizabethtown, Kentucky and moved to Louisville Kentucky where she began a career as Birth Registrar at the University of Louisville Hospital, from which she retired after decades of service.
Bettye held a love for children, flowers, food and the church. She was a member of Lane Lincoln CME, where she held positions as a stewardess and usher. Bettye had a passion for the gospel and its music, with her favorite song being, Blessed Assurance.
Bettye departed this life in the early morning hours of January 28, 2026.
Bettye is preceded in death by her siblings, Augustus Thurman Jr., Roberta O. Hayden, Donald Thurman, Barbara L. Thurman, and Richard A. Thurman.
Bettye is survived by her siblings, Frances J. Thurman, Elizabeth Bell, and Ramona Plant.
Bettye leaves to cherish her memory to a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins and friends.
Her presence will be missed. Her legacy will live on.
Funeral services for Bettye L. Thurman will be Thursday February 5, 2026, 12:00 p.m.at the William R. Rust Funeral Home Hodgenville Chapel, with Rev. Terry Robinson officiating , burial to follow in the Hubbard Cemetery in Hodgenville.
Visitation for Bettye Lou Thurman will be Thursday February 5, 2026 from 10 a.m. until time of service at 12:00 at the funeral home.
