Beverly Bishop Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by McCoy Funeral Home - Blacksburg on May 4, 2025.
Beverly Robin Bishop, age 60 of Christiansburg, VA, passed away April 30, 2025, at CNRV Medical Center after a courageous battle with cancer. She took her last labored breath on earth to awaken the purest air and deepest breath in the presence of her Lord.
Beverly was born in Radford, VA, on October 17, 1964, to the late Arlene Whitaker and Jim Chapman. She is survived by her wife and soulmate of 29 years, Sherry Bishop. She leaves behind so many that she loved, her daughter Gena Shrewsberry (fiancé Wayne Luckado); her sister Crystal (Ed) Ray, and brothers Jimmy Chapman and Jesse Fain. She leaves behind a nephew and several nieces: Adam Chapman, Leighayn Bishop, Rachel Chapman, Kristin Chapman Reynolds (Allen) and one whom she treated as an extra daughter, Amy Bishop. Beverly was always trying to impart wisdom to and even chastise those she cared deeply for, which is where she picked up her bonus daughter Kara Brown. She has several great nieces and nephews: Skylar Shepherd and Gage Surrat, Kyleigh and Ethan Bishop, Reese Reynolds. She also leaves behind a special cousin/sister, Tracy Whitaker. We cannot leave out the fur children as well, Sara Louise Bishop and Sage Leigh Bishop who will most definitely miss her care and treats. Beverly never met a stranger and if she did, she would not be a stranger to them for long.
Even though she faced many hardships from childhood to her last days, she became stronger without being bitter. She found her true strength the day she gave her life to God and realized His power, glory, and grace was sufficient for her and she wanted others to know He was willing to give the same to them! She enjoyed laughter and chose that over tears and wanted to spread the joy and humor to everyone she encountered. She was a giving individual, she would give you advice, support, creative guidance, and anything that you needed that she had, and she gave unconditional and unending love. Beverly enjoyed running her business in construction and making things by hand and later enjoyed many varied endeavors which showed her artistic gifts in painting and other works of art. Beverly lived a different life, but her life made a difference. She will be greatly missed and never replaced but those who were part of her life know they will never be without her as she left part of herself with them.
A memorial service and celebration of Beverly's life will take place May 10th at St. Paul's UMC, Main Street, Christiansburg with Rev. Mike Derlinger and Rev. Sarah Carper Morris officiating. Visitation will take place at 10:00 a.m. with the service to follow at 11:00 a.m. Flowers are welcome, or you may donate to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in memory of Beverly as she felt this charity to be most worthy.
Following the service, a reception will take place at 60 Chrisman St. Christiansburg, VA.
