Beverly Fast Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Miller-Ott Funeral Home - Hesston on Dec. 3, 2025.
Beverly Ranaeh (Reimer) Fast was born on September 10, 1945, in Goessel, Kansas, to Elmer and Emma Reimer. She grew up in Newton, Kansas, graduated from Newton High School in 1963, continued her education at Sidney's Hairdressing College and was a beautician for the next 50 years. As the middle child Bev found her role as the "clown of the family." She always had a fun time planning out her April Fool's joke each year!
As a teenager, Bev and her sister Joy ran a small milk stand. It was there that she first saw a young man named Wayne Fast. A few years later, with the help of friends, Bev and Wayne were set up on a date. They married on May 7, 1966, beginning their journey that lasted 56 years until Wayne's passing on January 30, 2022.
Two daughters made the Fast family complete. Shauna Raeh was born on February 20, 1971, and Kerri Lin followed on March 28, 1974. Bev's desire was to raise her children to know and love Jesus and she created a home filled with faith, music, and love, instilling in her daughters the importance of keeping Christ at the center of life.
Bev poured herself into her community. For over 40 years she was a faithful member of the Newton Area Christian Women's Club. She was involved in the Mother to Mother mentoring ministry, Newton Community Theatre, taught Bible studies and led prayer groups in her home. Of all her ministries, her favorite was serving as the "wig lady" with Victory in the Valley Cancer Support. With tenderness, she helped patients walking through cancer by shaving their heads, finding the perfect wig and praying with each person she served. Even while facing her own battle with cancer, she continued this ministry, determined to make others feel beautiful, valued, cared for and loved. For her, hairdressing was never just a job, it was a calling.
In August, 2013, Bev was diagnosed with Glioblastoma brain cancer. She was told she may only live a few months, but she lived far beyond those expectations. She embraced each day as a gift. In June, 2018, she suffered a stroke, yet even in her limitations, she continued to radiate Christ's love, making sure everyone she encountered felt seen, welcomed, and cherished.
This past September, Bev celebrated her 80th birthday surrounded by her entire family. Her life was a tapestry of faith, family, music, ministry, and friendship. She will be remembered not only for her humor and resilience, but for the way she made others feel. Her legacy continues in her children Shauna (Darrin) Boyd, Payson, AZ; Kerri Hurd, Newton, KS; grandchildren, Braden (Kylee) Boyd, Wynnewood, OK; Tara (Clark) Dickinson, Fairbanks, AK; Danny (Ashley Vogen) Hurd, Newton, KS and step-granddaughter Haleigh Clay, Englewood, CO and great-grandsons, Scout & Parker who she recently met.
Bev is also survived by her sister, Joy Boschman, Bakersfield, CA and Warren (Cathy) Reimer, Loveland, CO. and many cherished nieces and nephews.
Bev was preceded in death by her parents, husband Wayne Fast, son-in-law, Joel Hurd and brother-in-law, Will Boschman.
Memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 17, 2026, 2pm at Schowalter Villa Chapel. Memorial contributions can be sent to Miller-Ott Funeral Home, PO Box 32, Hesston, KS 67062 and designated towards Victory in the Valley or Schowalter Villa for a memorial in the courtyard, the place where Bev spent most afternoons.

Bev truly made you feel like a close friend. For several years, she would call me on my birthday and sing the birthday song to me! In later years, I'd see her at the Villa, always a big wave and smile, ready to chat a bit. Such an example of God's love. Bev made a difference.
