Beverly Halfaday of Florence, SD, formerly of Newfolden, MN, passed away at Ava's Hospice House in Sioux Falls, SD on Thursday, October 3, 2024.
Funeral service for Beverly will be held 2:00 PM on Tuesday, October 8, 2024 at Westaker Free Lutheran Church in Newfolden, MN with Reverend Kevin Hall Officiating. Burial will be held at Oak Grove Cemetery near Newfolden, MN. Visitation will start at 12:00 PM at the church on Tuesday.
Beverly Ann Peterson was born October 24th, 1944, in Thief River Falls, MN, to Cyrus and Lois (Lee) Peterson. She was baptized and confirmed at Calvary Lutheran Church. She was the first of nine children. Beverly had six sisters and two brothers. Sheryl, Marlene, Pamela, Rodney, Sheldon, Annette, Kimberly, and Kristie.
Beverly graduated from Pershing High School in 1963. It was around that time that Beverly met the love of her life, Earl Theodore Halfaday Jr. Beverly and Earl married in Ashland, WI, on June 27th, 1964. To this union five children were born: Douglas Wayne, Melissa Joy, Lowell Lynn, Melinda Jean, and Troy Allen. Beverly and Earl enjoyed matrimonial bliss for nearly 60 years.
In her life she held many jobs over the years including a school bus driver at MCC, she worked in the fall hauling potatoes out of the field. She was also the secretary of Westaker Free Lutheran Church and a Sunday School teacher. She lived in many places such as Plummer MN, Thief River Falls MN, Milwaukee WI, Ashland WI, Minneapolis MN, Viking MN, Newfolden MN, and Florence SD.
Beverly had various interests throughout her life. One thing she was particularly proud of was getting her motorcycle license at the age of 65 and enjoyed driving her blue Yamaha V-star motorcycle. She was a very devoted Christian and spent many summers at Galilee Bible camp cooking for the campers with her best friend, Darlene. She was always willing to give to those in need by donating to Angel's Attic in Watertown as well as being an organ/tissue donor.
She enjoyed keeping busy by gardening, cleaning, and cooking, and of course talking on the phone. Bev was a huge Kansas City Chiefs and Patrick Mahomes fan.
Beverly's greatest joy of all was her family. She attended countless activities for her kids, grandkids, and great grandkids, such as school events and sporting events. She enjoyed raving about her family and spoiling them in her special way. No two kids got the same grandma Bev because she knew what they needed as individuals and excelled at giving it to them and making each child feel her love. Some of the many ways she did that was by; cheering the loudest for them at their events, baking cookies with them, showing them how to find the best sales at a rummage, playing games like uno and other board games with them, talking to them for hours about nothing and everything, and just making everyone feel welcome in her home. Her laugh was contagious, and her blue eyes were always twinkling.
Beverly is survived by her mother, Lois Peterson, her eight siblings, Sheryl (Lyle) Morken, Marlene Johnson, Pamela Pals, Rodney (Diane) Peterson, Sheldon (Suzanne) Peterson, Annette Swanson, Kimberly Hicks, and Kristie (Bill) Fliehr; two sons Douglas (Rochelle) Halfaday, of Rosholt, SD, and Troy (Jesicah) Halfaday, of Watertown, SD; two daughters Melissa (Robbie) Hestekind, of Newfolden, MN, and Melinda Halfaday, of Watertown, SD; ten grandchildren, Ashley (Curtis) Enger, Amanda (Ric) Gill, Zachary (Anne) Hestekind, Katrina (Perry) Wallenstein, Jonathon (Rainey) Halfaday, Alex (Zahra) Halfaday, Hailey Halfaday, Maycee (Tre) Halfaday, Ian Halfaday, and Emilyn Halfaday; sixteen great grandchildren, and her great grand pets Nizhoni and Milo.
Beverly is preceded in death by her husband Earl Halfaday; her son Lowell Halfaday; her father Cyrus Peterson; in-laws Earl Sr. and Elvira Halfaday; brothers-in-law, Curtis Pals, Mark Swanson, and Rick Johnson; and niece Teresa Johnson; and many other relatives.
