Janice Laura (Larson) Carlson April 24, 1939 – January 20, 2026
Janice Laura Carlson, beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully at the age of 86. Born on April 24, 1939, in Winger, Minnesota, Janice was the cherished daughter of Edwin and Laura Larson. She grew up in Winger with her brother Lyle and carried the memory of her two sisters who passed away in infancy throughout her life.
A proud graduate of McIntosh High School, Class of 1957, Janice married the love of her life, Edward Carlson, on June 22, 1958. Together, they made their home on the Carlson family farm near Strandquist, Minnesota, where they raised their two children, Robert Carlson and Lori (Todd) Jensen.
Janice was a woman of remarkable strength, resilience, and dedication. She worked tirelessly on the farm—milking cows and managing daily chores—and held several jobs in the community. Her career included roles at the school in Strandquist, the hatchery in Thief River Falls, the local turkey plant, and as a school bus and Tri-Valley bus driver. Her work ethic and kindness left a lasting impact on those around her.
Janice was preceded in death by her husband, Edward (2019); her brother, Lyle Larson; her two infant sisters; her parents, Edwin and Laura Larson; her parents-in-law, Otto and Hilma Carlson; and Robbie’s significant other, Sally Carlson (2018).
She is survived by her son, Robert Carlson of Strandquist, MN, and her daughter, Lori (Todd) Jensen of Carver, MN. She is also lovingly remembered by her granddaughter, Kayla (Lowell) Naas, and great-granddaughter, Addie, who brought her immense joy and pride. Sally’s children, Melissa (Dustin) Keller, Michael (Nicolle) Carlson, and grandchildren Cody Swenson, Tabor Keller, Emma Keller, Ariella Kindbird, Hunter Connolly, and Zachary Carlson.
