Beverly Hamilton Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by David Lee Funeral Home & Cremation Services on Jan. 24, 2026.
Beverly Jean Hamilton was born to Jack and Elsie Johnson in Minneapolis during the depression on Sept. 3, 1931. Her parents divorced when she was young. She had no brothers and sisters, and she had a rather hard, lonely childhood. For a while she and her mother lived with her aunt and cousins. When she was in high school a classmate invited her to go to Fourth Baptist Church. It was there she heard the Gospel and realized her need for a Savior and accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior. She enjoyed going to the church, sang in the choir and made several good friends there.

After graduating from North High School in Minneapolis in 1949, Bev worked as a medical secretary in doctor's offices. Bev also got a diploma from the Pearl Lowman School of Hairdressing. Later she worked in the medical records department at North Memorial Hospital and then later after her marriage at Ridgeview Medical Center in Waconia until her retirement.

Beverly moved into the home of some friends, Joan and Chuck Short, and moved with them in 1958 to Maple Plain. She started attending the Maple Plain Community Church, where she sang in the choir and helped for many years with the children's ministries (children's church, Sunday school and Wednesday kids programming. It was at church that she met the love of her life, Barney Hamilton. They were married June 28,1972 and were married for 37 years when Barney passed away on July 30, 2009.

Having a love for music, Beverly learned to play the piano and auto harp. While she worked at the hospital, they offered painting classes, and Bev painted many beautiful pictures. She and Barney did a lot of tent camping up North, and in later years they stayed many summers at a cabin in Grand Marais. They especially loved their many trips to Hawaii in the winter. She enjoyed going to garage sales, collecting moon and star dishes, and she had a large stamp collection. She loved to read and had a huge library of books.

After Barney passed away, Bev had a new house built north of the farmhouse. She very much enjoyed this warm, handy, brand-new house. She started going to Anytime Fitness in Mound, where she made many new friends who became like family to her. She especially enjoyed Tim the owner's dogs, Miles and later Penny, who would sit on her lap every time she was there.

When Bev needed assistance to stay living in her home, women from Home Instead came three hours each morning. She appreciated their help and company. When she was no longer able to stay in her home even with help, she moved into Haven Homes in April 2024. She enjoyed the food and people there. She passed away in her sleep on January 22, 2026, and is now with her Lord and Savior.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Barney Hamilton, her parents Jack and Elsie Johnson, her brothers-in-law Philip (Verna) Hamilton and Robert (Marilyn) Hamilton, and sisters-in-law Marguerite (Calvin) Storley and Shirley (Donald) Ericson. She is survived by many nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends.

Funeral service will be held at Maple Plain Community Church, 1815 Budd Ave. N., at 11:00 January 29. Visitation one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment at Christ Lutheran Cemetery, Maple Plain. Memorials preferred to Maple Plain Community Church Missions. I met Beverly in 2017 at the Anytime Fitness gym in Mound. I loved her warm smile and was inspired by her commitment to keeping herself healthy. As the years went by and Beverly was no longer able to drive safely, I started picking her up and giving her a ride to the gym on Friday evenings for Prince TRX. Those were some of my fondest memories.

It became our routine. Every Friday night, I would pick Beverly up and we would chat on the car ride to and from the gym. She adored the gym owner, Tim, and his dogs-Miles and Miles“ successor, Penny. Beverly always had the biggest smile and the kindest words, and she made everyone feel special. I am so grateful to have had Beverly in my life and truly cherished our time together. She will be greatly missed.
