Beverly "Bebe" Hess, 94, of Wapwallopen, died Wednesday, Dec. 3, 2025, at Geisinger Bloomsburg Hospital.
Born Feb. 21, 1931, in Berwick, she was the daughter of the late Harold "Hap" and Arlene (Painter) Slusser.
A graduate of Nescopeck High School, she went on to work as a banker for various banks in the area.
Mrs. Hess was a member of St. John's United Church of Christ, Wapwallopen, where she served as a choir director for many years and participated in the Willing Workers and the Red Hatters. A gifted singer, she sang in many weddings over the years from the time she was sixteen years old. Beverly was a major part at the Heller Apple Festival and baked many apple pies in her lifetime. She enjoyed sewing, doing puzzles, and collecting recipes. During Christmas time, she loved setting up her house displays with her train that she had from childhood. One of her favorite vacation spots was Maine. She also took cross-country trips to California, and celebrated her 50th wedding anniversary in Hawaii. Her cat, Tigger, was very special to her, and she also loved flowers. She found much joy in playing Chinese Checkers with her grandchildren, and Go Fish and Crazy 8's with her great-grandchildren. Having lived life to the full, she deeply loved her friends, her family, and her God.
Beverly was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Leroy A. Hess, who died July 12, 2019, and whom she married April 12, 1952; her daughter, Cindy L. Shoemaker; and her brother, Harold "Ned" Slusser.
Surviving are two daughters: Pamela J. Harker and her husband, Leon, of Wapwallopen, and Holly L. O'Brien and her husband, Patrick, of Berwick; six grandchildren: Stevie, Scott, Sean, Cherish, Lacey, and Laura; 11 great-grandchildren: Kendra, Cheyanne, Paul Jr. "PJ", Allen, Catherine, Jasmine, Cassandra, Brody, Olivia, Oliver, and Otto; seven great-great-grandchildren; her sister, Connie Louise Viers, of White Haven; and her son-in-law, Steve Shoemaker, of Nescopeck.
A visitation will be held Friday, Dec. 5, 2025, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Mayo Funeral Home, Inc., 110 Chestnut St., Berwick. A second visitation will be held at 10 a.m. until the time of funeral services at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 6, 2025, at the First United Church of Christ, 416 Church Street, Wapwallopen, with Pastor Janelle Surkin, worship leader, and the Dr. Rev. Jane Hess, retired pastor, officiating.
Interment will be in Old River Cemetery, Wapwallopen.
