Beverly Wise Obituary
Beverly Ann Wise
05/30/1933 - 09/25/2025
Beverly Ann Fisher Wise, long time Midland resident, passed away at the age of 92 in New Braunfels, Texas. Beverly was born in Pampa, Texas to parents Mary Elizabeth (Brittain) Yoder and Waldo Henry Fisher.
Beverly grew up in Phillips, Texas, a company town where almost everyone's father, and sometimes mother, too, worked for "Uncle Frank". Beverly had a wonderful childhood growing up in a small setting where everyone knew each other. Her mother gave her the gift of music with piano lessons at an early age. As a teenager, Beverly begged to quit piano lessons but her mother insisted on her continuing. Beverly later majored in music.
Beverly graduated from Phillips High School as valedictorian at age 16 in 1950. She went to UT Austin and had the privilege of living at the Scottish Rite Dormitory because her father was a Mason. As a piano major she received the honor of being named the freshman woman with the highest grades in the Fine Arts Department.
After graduation, Beverly spent a year as secretary/receptionist with Scott Investment Company so she could stay in Austin and share an apartment with two friends. When an opening for a grade school music teacher became available in Midland, she took the position and began teaching at Travis Elementary School in the fall of 1955. She met Bob Wise during the three years she taught there and they married on Thanksgiving Day 1957.
They were blessed with two children, Robert Lee, Jr. (Lee) and Mary Ann. Beverly retired from teaching at the public school system when the children were born. When Lee and Mary were school age, Beverly began teaching private piano lessons. She became a member of MTNA and taught for several years. She became interested in the new computer technology and took classes at Midland College and received an associate degree in computer science.
In the early 1980's, Beverly began working at the Midland Public Library. She then earned a master's degree in Library Science from UNT.
Beverly later moved to San Marcos to be close to her daughter.
Beverly is proceeded in death by her husband of 57 years Bob; her son Lee; her brother Gary Fisher; and her parents, Mary and Waldo Fisher.
She is survived by her daughter Mary Wise and son-in-law Steve Saurenman; daughter-in-law Sue Wise; granddaughter Sara Rapp, and great grandchildren Cayden Savage and Slaton Rapp.
Graveside services will be held at 1:00pm on Monday, October 6, 2025, at Fairview Cemetery, 1620 N. A Street, Midland, Texas.
