It is with regret and heartbreak that we announce the passing of Bijan Anvar on August 15, 2024. Bijan was born in Kermenshah, Iran on December 14, 1937. He was preceded in death by his father, Hamid Anvar, his mother, Badrolsharieh Modarasiand, and his brother Kaamal.
Bijan joined the Imperial Iranian Air Force (IIAF) as a cadet. He went on to become a fighter pilot and rose to the rank of Brigadier General. He accumulated thousands of hours in the air including over 2000 hours in the F-5 alone. He often spoke fondly and with pride of his time in the IIAF and maintained close relationships with those who had served alongside him. After a full career as a fighter pilot Bijan began a second career as a system analyst with Northrop Corporation until his retirement after 25 years of service.
Without a doubt, Bijan would say that the best thing that ever happened to him was meeting the love of his life Amyr Swanson in Phoenix, AZ while in joint fighter pilot flight school with the US Air Force. They were married in Teheran, Iran, January 18, 1962, and were devoted companions throughout their lives. Bijan was devastated by the loss of Amyr on October 26, 2009. He remained devoted to her throughout the remainder of his life.
Blessed with an active and inquisitive mind he kept active with gardening, sharing his culinary skills with others including his grandchildren, tinkering with anything mechanical /electrical, jewelry making, and even painting during his last years.
Surviving are his children, Stephen (Angela) Anvar of Louisville, KY; David (Suzy) Anvar of Sunnyvale, CA; and Paul (Elizabeth) Anvar of Porter Ranch, CA; and six grandchildren. He is also survived by his brothers, Saeed and Jamsheed; and sisters Farideh, Porie and Pouran.
His wish was to be laid to rest next to the love of his life, Amyr, in the Ogden City Cemetery, Ogden, UT.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 7, 2024, at 2 p.m. at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd. Friends may visit with family on Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Saturday from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd.
