The Graveside service for Billy Charles Patrick Cummings, 82, of Enid, will be held at 2:00 P.M., Wednesday, January 14th, 2026 in Calvary Cemetery with Rev. Mark Mason officiating. Complete cremation care and services are under the direction of Brown-Cummings, A life celebration home.

Billy was born on July 28, 1943 to Bill and Irene Kenny Cummings and died December 31, 2025.

His formal education began at St. Joseph Catholic School in Enid, Oklahoma. Billy graduated high school from St. Vincent’s College Prep in Cape Girardeau, Missouri. He went on with Vincentian priests graduating from St. Mary’s Seminary in Perryville, Missouri with a bachelor’s degree in philosophy. He earned his masters in English from DePaul University.

He later moved to Tucson, Arizona to live and work. While there, his interest in the life of Billy the Kid led him to move to Lincoln, New Mexico to work at the Lincoln Heritage Museum as researcher and docent. In 1995, his book, Frontier Parish, was published.

Billy loved a good conversation. With his gift of gab and quick wit he could talk to anyone about anything. His love was history and his Irish heritage. He was an author, a theologian, and a staunch defender of civil rights, Truth and Justice.

Billy is survived by his sister, Bea Parker and husband Mike and brother Joe Cummings and wife, Becky. Also, nieces Nikki Chisum and husband, Marty and son Brecken, Shelley Phillips and husband, Chad, and children Ella, Tucker, and Henry, Shana Cole and husband, Kyle, and children Ellie and Beaudie, his nephew Shaun Cummings and wife Amy, and children Emma and Willa and many cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Jerry Ike, and his niece, Becky Lynn Parker.

Billy will be missed by his family, his senior Citizen community and his faithful, longtime friends, Mike, Ralph, Dave, Tom, and Jimmy.

A Memorial service will be held at a later date.

 May he rest in peace.
