In September of 1986 Bill married the love of his life Susan Core at the Chapel on Campus in Baton Rouge. They were married by Donald Tabb who has been a lifelong friend. They have been married for 37 years. After the passing of his father, Lawrence Harmel, he returned in 2006 to Seymour to preserve his father's legacy as a rancher and farmer at the Harmel Ranch.
