Bill Stattel, 77, a lifelong resident of Marlboro, NJ, and part-time resident of Stuart, Fla., passed away on October 10, 2025 at Jersey Shore Medical Center in Neptune, NJ.
Bill was born on December 17, 1947 in Neptune, NJ to Dorothy and Daniel Stattel. He attended Freehold Boro High School and grew up on Brookrest Farm in Marlboro, where he was a Boy Scout, learned to be a great mechanic and became an avid lover of the outdoors. His skills with a wrench landed him in the motor pool while serving in the NJ National Guard. When Bill wasn't on the farm, he was racing cars he built with his brothers and friends, or hanging out at the shore, fishing and racing boats in Silver Bay. It was in Manasquan where he met his wife, Annie, and where he would later teach his children to fish and drive boats around the Glimmer Glass.
Bill started Marlboro Lawn and Landscaping in 1969. Over the 56 years he grew it into a successful business, planting trees across Monmouth County and beyond, making New Jersey all the more green. He had a faithful team of employees and found great joy in running his own business. Bill's other joys included, spending time with his wife and children, hunting, fishing, skiing, snowmobiling and working on vintage cars. He liked learning about the histories in places such as the Treasure Coast in Florida, where he and Annie spent much of their time; and big game fishing with friends in places like the Bahamas, Costa Rica, Cabo San Lucas and Panama.
Bill is survived by his loving wife of 42 years Annie O'Pray-Stattel, his daughter, Erin Stattel; (New York City),his son, Justin Stattel (Marlboro); his brother Ken Stattel (Candee) (Marlboro) and a niece and nephews, cousins, and many longtime fishing buddies.
Bill was predeceased by his parents and his brother Bob.
Bill will be deeply missed by his many business associates, the farming community, friends and neighbors in both New Jersey and Florida who knew and loved him.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 14, 2025 from 4:00pm to 8:00pm at Waitt Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 501 HWY 79, Morganville, NJ 07751.
