Noe Funeral Service - BeaufortBill Thornton Jr., 80, of Beaufort, passed away on Tuesday, October 21, 2025 at Carteret Health Care of Morehead City.
A proud veteran of the United States Air Force, Bill went on to build a successful career as an insurance agent in the Triangle area before retiring to Beaufort. In retirement, he became an active member of One Harbor East in Beaufort, where he served as a church greeter and enjoyed connecting with others in his community.
Bill had a zest for life and a deep appreciation for the simple joys it offered. He loved to travel, fish, and play golf. A familiar face at local malls, he delighted in walking around and meeting new people wherever he went. Known for his warm sense of humor, Bill found joy in making others laugh and brightening their day.
His love for the water was evident throughout his life, especially during his years spent along the coast in Beaufort.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 1:00 November 1, 2025 at One Harbor Church East in Beaufort, NC.
He is survived by his wife of 29 years, Debbie Thornton of Beaufort; two daughters, Lynne Sanders and husband, Mike of Cary, NC; Lauren Barker and husband, Ryan of Beaufort; six grandchildren, Brooke Wilkins and husband, Rich of Raleigh; Colton Sanders of San Fransico, CA; Addison, Charlie, Sydney, and Reagan Barker all of Beaufort; sister, Deborah Estes and husband, Howard of Raleigh.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Norwood and Jerri Thornton.
