Margaret Isabel Steepy (Mabel), of Beaufort, NC, passed away Monday, 13th October 2025. She was born 6th March 1934 in Edinburgh, Scotland, where her 3 children Linda, Craig, and Philip were raised. After traveling the world, she settled with Philip in Goldsboro, NC, where Craig joined her but Linda stayed in the UK.
This is where she met Tom, her loving husband of 37 years, who had 2 daughters, Kirsten and Tracy. From Goldsboro, they moved to Indianapolis with Tom's job.
Tom retired in 1995 and they moved to their beloved coastal town of Beaufort, NC. They bought a Civil War era home on Turner Street which they remodeled and opened as a bed and breakfast called the "Delamar Inn." Mabel and Tom were both quickly engaged in town activities. Mabel was highly involved in several community organizations, was honored with a lifetime membership of Beaufort Woman's Club, active in the Pretty Beaufort Committee, Sweet Potato Queens, and Beaufort Garden Club, just to name a few. She hosted 130 visitors from Sister City Beaufort-On-The-Sea, France. She became a US Citizen in 1998. Mabel also provided much support for Tom after he was elected Mayor of Beaufort and again when he was County Commissioner.
A memorial service will be held at 12:00pm on Thursday, October 23, 2025 at Bridgeway Church in Beaufort. Burial will follow at Oceanview Cemetery in Beaufort. The family will receive friends from 11:00 to 12:00pm on Thursday at the church. For those unable to attend, a livestreamed version of the service will be available below.
