Bill Webb, 92, loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Sunday, 16 November 2025.
While Bill’s interests and talents were many, his love for his family and friends was always at the forefront. No matter the time or place, he was there for them. In all ways, they came first with his time and in his heart.
Though he was physically a large, imposing man, inside, Bill was a big teddy bear. He cried easily and loved with a depth of feeling that is truly beyond words.
Bill was a Marine, athlete, historian, handyman, sounding board, salesman, and supporter to many in his life. He knew the state of Texas, its counties, small towns, and all of its back roads by heart. He loved Texas A&M, Ole Miss, Big Band Music, the Hill Country, Flour Bluff, John Wayne, and all Westerns.
He was known for his witty one-liners, otherwise known as “Bill-isms.” No matter the setting and without hesitation, he would have a comment to share and, sometimes, they were even politically correct! Two of his favorite responses when you asked him how he was doing were either, “Not too bad for an old gray headed fat man” or “Chasing wild women and not catching any!”
From his days as a pilot in the 1950’s, stationed on aircraft carriers, and for the rest of his life, he used hand signals to let family know when he was ready to leave an event or party. The expectation was that his family was to leave with him, though that didn’t always happen. Those hand signals meant, “Kick the tires, light the fire, and pull the chocks!” In other words, let’s get the heck out of here! Now that we have lost him, we can see him using those same hand signals to tell us that it’s time for him to go and we must say goodbye to him. We will miss him terribly.
