CASTLE DALE- Our beloved father, grandfather, brother, and uncle, Billie Mondell Olsen, passed away peacefully while surrounded by family on November 15, 2025, in Price, Utah.

Bill was born on July 16, 1932, in Moroni, Utah to Charles Doyle Olsen and Rozina Marie Nielsen Olsen. He grew up in nearby Spring City during the Great Depression. The family had a farm south of town for generations and everything they ate came from the farm and garden.

He was joined at the hip to his twin brother, Bobbie. The twins made the mountains their home, traveling from Sanpete to Emery County on horseback at age 15. In later years, they also remembered delivering the Deseret News on horseback. As teenagers, they played football for North Sanpete football.

In 1952, Bill was drafted into the U.S. Army at Fort Douglas, Utah and was stationed in Hokkaido, Japan during the Korean War. Upon his honorable discharge from the 1st Infantry Division two years later, he saw Lois Grace Daniels at the post office in Mount Pleasant and thought to himself, "I am going to get to know that girl." They were married on June 5, 1957.

They lived in Nephi, Utah where Bill worked at the Thermoid Rubber Plant. Bill and his family moved to Orangeville in 1973, where he began working at the Des Bee Dove mine. He retired from the Cottonwood mine in 1995, after working underground for more than twenty years.

Bill and Grace were sealed in the Manti, Utah Temple on January 26, 1991. Bill was a devoted husband and was always there for his wife until her death in 2018. They celebrated sixty-one years of marriage together.

Bill was a talented builder, carpenter, gardener, and leather worker. He spent much of his retirement building sheds, planting apple trees, and caring for his garden. He hunted and enjoyed fishing with his son, Scott and his grandsons. Anyone who knew him knows he liked to treasure hunt, find a good deal, and drive a hard bargain.

Bill was no stranger to adversity. His hip was crushed on a hunting trip, leaving him bed-ridden for two years. The family's home in Orangeville burned down in 1979. Bill battled non-Hodgkin's lymphoma for the last two years of his life. These challenges never stopped Bill. He always made the best of his circumstances and was the best example of perseverance and dedication.

Above all, Bill valued his family and frequently remarked that, "family is everything." It was clear that Bill found his purpose in family and demonstrated his willingness to sacrifice all that he had for them. Up until his last moments, he asked how he could be of service to his family.

He had a testimony of the savior, Jesus Christ and of the plan of salvation. We find comfort in knowing that he is now at peace with his wife, Grace and other members of his family.

Bill was preceded in death by his wife, Grace; his daughter, Lisa; his parents, Doyle and Rozina; brothers, Val Dean and Bob; sister, Marie Hughes; and grandsons, Corey Daley and Robert Paul Daley.

Bill is survived by his sons, David (Michelle) Leichty of Centerville, Utah, Scott (Tina) Olsen of Huntington, Utah, and Jedd (Alana) Olsen of Huntington, Utah; daughter, Debbie (Bill) Murray of Huntington, Utah; brother, Richard (Larayne) Olsen of Hooper, Utah; fourteen grandchildren; and twenty great-grandchildren.

Funeral Service, Wednesday, November 19, 2025, 11:00 a.m., Huntington Stake Center (240 North Main Street) in Huntington. The family will receive friends on Tuesday evening from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. and on Wednesday morning from 9:30 - 10:30 a.m. prior to the service at the stake center. Interment, Huntington City Cemetery.
