Billy R. Borton, 79, of Massillon, formerly of Dalton went to be with the Lord on March 9, 2026 at Aultman Hospital.
He was born on June 19, 1946 to the late Joseph and Eva (Moore) Borton in Barnesville, Ohio.
A veteran of The United States Army, Billy attended Massillon Baptist Temple. He was a loving husband who shared a lifetime of memories with his beloved wife of 57 years, a proud father who guided his children with laughter and wisdom, and a treasured grandfather whose stories, laughter and jokes will remain in the hearts of his grandchildren forever.
He also had a deep love for music. He played the fiddle with Larry Efaw and The Bluegrass Mountaineers for 40 years playing in 9 states and Canada. He also played the piano, mandolin, guitar and loved to sing and yodel. His spirited fiddle playing and joyful yodeling were a part of who he was, often filling the rooms with laughter and bringing people together in the simple happiness of music.
Billy started his apprenticeship with the Frantz Brothers, then owned and operated Borton Construction and worked part time the last 5 years at Ohio Outdoor Structures. Billy was a dedicated family man.
Those who knew him will remember his warm smile, laughter, jokes and a cigar in his mouth.
He leaves behind a loving family who will continue to honor his legacy: his beloved spouse, Linda J (Savage) Borton; his children, Russell “Todd” (Kim) Borton and Wendy (Matt) August; grandchildren, Brendt (Anna) August, Brock (Samantha) August, Brooklyn (Ryan Housely) August, Brayden Millard, Bryce Borton; siblings Virginia Laase, Betty Kaser, Joan Miller and Linda Yoder and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his siblings, Louella Sidel, Orland Borton, Tillman Borton, Rudy Borton, Johnny Borton, Herbert Borton and Curtis Borton.
Though he will be deeply missed, his memory lives on in the music he loved, the lessons he shared, and the family he cherished so deeply.
Visitation will be held Thursday, March 19, 2026 from 6:00pm-8:00pm at Paquelet & Arnold-Lynch Funeral Home, Massillon, Ohio.
Graveside Service will take place on Friday, March 20, 2026 at 12:15pm in the Ohio Western Reserve
National Cemetery, Pastor Allen Sidel, officiating.
