Billy Louis Flatt was born on April 10, 1943 in Jackson County, Tennessee to Sewell Isaac Flatt and Ruby Lee Roberts Flatt. He departed this life on August 16, 2025, at Cookeville Regional Hospital in Cookeville, Tennessee.

He lived his life being kind, compassionate, caring, and following the teachings of the Bible. He loved his wife and children, and grandchildren fiercely and taught them to be kind, hard working, and strong. He always lead by example, showing them all the way forward. He was always ready to help anyone in need, even someone he didn't know. He always had a smile and kind words for everyone. He never met a stranger.

Billy was a hard worker, beginning his career after graduating from Jackson County Central High School, at McCord Wynne in Cookeville, Tennessee. In 1964 he joined the National Guard and proudly served six years, earning the Authorized Sharpshooter Rifleman's Badge and was listed as an expert sharpshooter. His career continued at Porelon, where he was a supervisor for eighteen years. He cultivated many life long friendships at Porelon. Next, he was a plant manager at Leisure Life in Baxter and finished his career at Nielsen's in Gainesboro. He made many lifelong friendships in each work place. He also coached Little League Baseball in Jackson County for a few years. Trying to be a positive influence in his community. He was an avid deer hunter and coon hunter in his younger years.

On April 18, 1969, he married the love of his life, Mary N. Franklin, who passed away December 23, 2024. Their love story continued for fifty-five years, with them never leaving each other's side. They enjoyed drinking coffee on their porch and watching wildlife. They had two children, Christopher W. Flatt (Angela Smith) of Gordonsville, Tennessee and Sharon E Flatt Carlile of Cookeville, Tennessee. Both children survive.

Billy was a loving and supporting father. He proudly celebrated every triumph of his children. And was always there to pick them up when life knocked them down. He was their best friend and hero. He treated his six grandchildren the same way, always trying to teach and guide them. He is survived by his six grandchildren: Callie Carlile, Grant Carlile, Chloe Flatt, Olivia Denton Bogue (Brian), Alicia Flatt and Brianna Flatt. He is also survived by his beloved brother in law, David Franklin (Angie) of Crossville, Tennessee, whom he loved dearly. He is survived by a special nephew Eric Flatt (Sierra) and great-nephew, Joshua Flatt of Cookeville, Tennessee. He enjoyed every minute he spent with them. He is survived by a host of nieces and nephews, that he also loved dearly.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers: Kenneth E Flatt, Windell L Flatt, James H Flatt, Ronnie W Flatt and sister: Linda F Wilmoth.

He was a member of Davidson Chapel Church of Christ. Billy will forever be remembered by his family, friends and anyone that knew him. His qualities of being kind, gentle, hard working and being a positive influence on the world will live on in the hearts of many.

The visitation will be held on Friday, August 22, 2025, from 5 PM until 9 PM. Visitation will resume on Saturday, August 23, 2025, at 12 PM until time of the funeral at 2 PM. Brothers Kelly Stockton and Charlie Wills will be officiating. Burial will follow in Curry's Chapel Cemetery.

The following are honored to be Billy's pallbearers: David Franklin, Eric Flatt, Grady Bilbrey, Barry Bilbrey, Johnny Bryant, and Mark Brown. Honorary Pallbearers will be Stanley Duke, Mark Stebing, and Bobby Vinson.
