Billy Head Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Laurel Oaks Funeral Home & Memorial Park on Feb. 6, 2026.
Billy Glenn Head, 87, passed away peacefully on February 1, 2026. A devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend, Billy lived a life marked by faith, service, hard work, and laughter.

Billy was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 68 years, Betty Head; his daughter, Karen Collins; and his parents, Mary and Thomas Head.

He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Stan and Laura Head; his sister, Josie Faye Smithy; his grandchildren Allison Chambless, Kellie Dortch, Tammy Collins, and Ricky Collins; along with several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. He also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews who loved him dearly.

Billy was an electrician by trade and a proud, retired member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW). He retired from the Maintenance Division at Raytheon in Garland. During his career, Billy traveled extensively, working on electrical projects in Africa and Saudi Arabia. After retirement, his servant's heart led him on multiple mission trips to Central America, where he helped build churches and support communities in need.

Billy and his late wife, Betty, were longtime members of Friendship Baptist Church in Mesquite. Together, they joyfully served their church family by driving the church bus on senior trips, participating in church "eat days," and enjoying fellowship through games and laughter. Billy also faithfully drove the church van to provide transportation for elderly members so they could attend services.

A dedicated coach, Billy spent many years coaching Little League baseball in Mesquite, positively impacting countless young lives. In his free time, he loved cooking and baking, fishing, and gardening. He was especially proud of his vegetables grown in five-gallon buckets and his famous "upside-down" tomatoes. One of his favorite pastimes was cracking pecans while watching Sunday football or old westerns.

Known for his sense of humor, Billy was a natural practical joker who loved to make people laugh. He delighted in playing games with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and was always eager to help others or share his knowledge. Billy was truly a friend to everyone he met.

Billy Glenn Head was deeply loved and will be greatly missed by all who knew him, but his legacy of kindness, faith, and joy will live on in the many lives he touched.
