Billy Benjamin McLeod

Billy Benjamin McLeod, 94, widow of Betty Windham McLeod, died Thursday, March 26, 2026, at Prisma Health Tuomey Hospital.

Born September 13, 1931, in Sumter, he was a son of the late Iley S. McLeod and the late Hattie Poole McLeod. Mr. McLeod was a member of New Start Community Church of the Nazarene in Manning. He worked for several years with Sumter Machinery Company and retired from Sumter Electric and Rewinding Company. Mr. McLeod was a jack of all trades. Following his retirement, he started his own business repairing anything from bicycles and lawnmowers to water pumps. Mr. McLeod had many interests. He loved playing guitar, singing and dancing. He also enjoyed planting his garden, good home cooking, and traveling to the mountains. He never met a stranger and would talk with anyone. He enjoyed Billy Graham and actually went to see him in person once. Additionally, he had a great interest in his Scottish Heritage. He loved his family dearly and enjoyed time spent with them.

Survivors include three children, Donnie McLeod (Robyn), Debbie Osteen (Robert), and Perry "Benny" McLeod; nine grandchildren, Chrissy McLeod, Angel McLeod (Joe), Donnie "D.J." McLeod, Jr. (Jennifer), Casey Abrams (Whit), Alex Slice (David), Chance Osteen (Shannon), John Keffer (Claire), Alaina Keffer (Jason), Thomas Keffer; and numerous great grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Robert Allen McLeod; and four brothers, Delbert McLeod, Richard F. McLeod, Robert McLeod, and Marvin McLeod; and five sisters, Dollie Nunnery, Maggie Lee Geddings, Mabel McLeod, Pearline McLeod, and Eileen Barkley.

A memorial service will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday in the Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Michael Bowman officiating.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 6 p.m. Thursday at Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home and other times at the home of Donnie and Robyn McLeod, 720 Baldwin Drive.
