Jacqueline Benenhaley Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home and Crematorium on Mar. 26, 2026.
Jacqueline "Jackie" Benenhaley, a woman whose life radiated joy, kindness, and unwavering faith, passed away on Tuesday, March 24, 2026, at MUSC Kershaw Health Medical Center. Born on March 11, 1951, in Sumter, Jackie was a beloved daughter, sister, friend, educator, and servant of the Lord. She was truly cherished by all who had the privilege of knowing her.

Jackie was preceded in death by her parents, Julius and Nellie Benenhaley, and her brother, Julius Benenhaley, Jr.

She is survived by two brothers, Marvin Benenhaley and Darrell Benenhaley; two aunts, Margie McMickell and Mary Benenhaley; and many cousins.

Though her earthly journey has ended, the love she shared and the lives she touched continue to speak powerfully of her legacy.

A faithful and devoted member of Springbank Baptist Church, Jackie found great joy in serving her church family. She gave generously of her time and talents in many roles, including Sunday School Supervisor, Sunday School Secretary, Missions Committee member, and Youth Group Leader. Her faith was not something she professed, but something she lived each day, encouraging others with her warm spirit, gentle wisdom, and ever-present smile.

Jackies passion for serving others extended into her professional life as well. She graduated from Hillcrest High School and went on to earn her degree in education from Winthrop College. She dedicated thirty-three years to Sumter School District #17, where she taught at Central School, Alice Drive Elementary, Crosswell Drive, and Willow Drive. Special Education was her calling, and she approached her work with patience, compassion, and a deep belief in the potential of every child. Countless students and families were forever impacted by her commitment and care.

Above all else, Jackie will be remembered as a joyous person who was deeply loved and admired. She had a gift for friendship and maintained many close relationships throughout her life. Her laughter was infectious, her presence comforting, and her heart always open. Jackie made people feel seen, valued, and loved, and she leaves behind a wide circle of friends who will miss her dearly.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Springbank Baptist Church with the Rev. Steve Miller officiating. Burial will be in the Springbank Baptist Church Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be John "Jay" Pittman, Jr., Daniel Benenhaley, Jamie Hood, Harold Benenhhaley, Al Benenhaley, and Jimmy Hood.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home and other times at the home of her brothers, 2530 Relative Road, Dalzell.
