Billy Pennington Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Heartland Funeral Home & Cremation Services - Early on Jan. 5, 2026.
Billy Ray Pennington, 59 of Lake Brownwood, Texas passed away Wednesday, December 31, 2025. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 PM, Thursday, January 15, 2026 in the Coleman City Cemetery with Bill Slaymaker officiating.
Billy was born January 10, 1966 in San Angelo, Texas to Billy Joe and Bessie Magdalene (Faries) Pennington. He graduated from Big Lake High School and attended West Texas Technical College where he studied Ranch Management. Billy was an outdoorsman, he loved everything there was to do with fishing, hunting and raising cows. He specialized in Bow hunting, won 10 State Championships in Archery and was sponsored by Mathews Bows in competitions. He also loved to go to the Guadalupe's for fly fishing and all kinds of fishing really. He loved being on the land working with the cattle his family had and always wanted more. Billy was a proud member of the Choctaw Nation tribe from Oklahoma and was very proud of his heritage. He married Charlene Dobkins in March of 2013 and found his other half. Charlene was, in Dukes of Hazard words, Bo to his Luke. They did everything together. Billy taught her to shoot bow and Arrow, fly fish and away they went on outdoor adventures.
Billy is survived by his precious wife, Charlene of Lake Brownwood; nephew, Cody John Watkins of Big Lake; niece, Lori Watkins of Big Lake; three step-daughters from a previous marriage; uncles, aunts, numerous cousins and many friends.
Billy was preceded in death by his parents, Billy Joe Pennington and Bessie Faires Pennington; sisters, Caroline Jo Pennington and Virginia Lucille Watkins.
In lieu of flowers and due to unseen circumstances of Billy's passing. Charlene asks that friends and family donate to help in Billy's final expenses either by calling Heartland Funeral Home direct at 325-646-9424 or by donating to the Go Fund Me link attached here, https://gofund.me/2dcf36d73 and is very appreciative for your love and support at this time.
