Billy Joe Shrimplin, 90, died Sunday, July 27, 2025 at Kearny County Hospital in Lakin. He was born October 19, 1934 in Lawrence Kansas, the son of Willis (Bill) Shrimplin and Gladys (Todd) Shrimplin.
Bill attended schools in Lawrence and Holcomb. He later joined the U.S. Air Force, serving in the time between Korea and Vietnam. On December 27, 1966 he married Julia Ann Gibson in Garden City, Kansas. They lived in Holcomb Kansas. Bill farmed with his dad and then on his own, with his son, until his retirement. Billy and Julia moved to Deerfield. Kansas to live on the land they owned.
Survivors include his daughter, Lola Anne Shrimplin of Lawrence, son Dirk Ray Shrimplin and wife Emily (Jones) Shrimplin of Lawrence; two sisters, Geraldine (Gerrie) Collier of Kansas City Missouri and Gladys Paasch of Garden City, one brother, Floyd Shrimplin of Redlands California; four grandchildren Hailee Shrimplin, Luke Shrimplin, Tzeitel Shrimplin and Josh Shrimplin. He is also survived by nieces Judy Taylor, Tina Summers, Kathy Robinson, Lea Leonard and Joy Phillips; nephews Steven Shrimplin, Charles Collier, Garry and Larry Paasch. He is also survived by Doug Jones of Topeka and Edith Fleming of Salina.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Julia, his parents, her parents, Dale and Madeline Gibson; brother Marvin Shrimplin and wife Beverly; brothers-in-law Louis Collier and David Paasch, nieces Janet Mudd, Marl Phillips, and Sherry Whitfield and nephew-in-law Donnie Summers. He was also preceded in death by Robb Mitchell.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., August 2nd, 2025 at First United Methodist Church in Garden City Kansas with Rev. Jim Akins officiating. Burial will follow immediately after the service in Sunset Memorial Gardens with Military Honors conducted by the Southwest Kansas Veterans Honor Guard. The family suggests memorials be given to First United Methodist Church in Garden City in care of Garnand Funeral Home of Garden City.
