Billy Jack Somerset, 89, of Smithfield, went home to be with our Heavenly Father, on Saturday, March 1, 2025. He was the son of the late Anna Bell Somerset. He preceded in death by his wife of 65 years Dorothy Josephine Wiggins Somerset. He is survived by his daughter, Stephanie I. Scott (Dennis); sons, Bill Jack Somerset, II (Debbi) and Kenneth M. Somerset (Natalie); eight grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; Mr. Somerset was a member of Bacon’s Castle Baptist Church, where he faithfully served his community. He proudly served and retired from the U.S. Air Force after nearly 30 years of service. He then taught at New Horizons in Hampton, VA for more than twenty years. A man of many talents he enjoyed working with his hands, restoring old homes, and teaching others. He loved working on cars. He was especially proud of his military service and his part in the Langley Air Force Base Rifle and Pistol teams. A funeral service will be held on Friday March 7, 2025, 2 p.m. at Bacon’s Castle Baptist Church with burial to follow in the Old Brick Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Online condolences may be registered at www.littlesfuneralhome.com.
