John Somerset Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Trahan Family Funeral Home of Milton on Feb. 25, 2026.
John Samuel Somerset, known affectionately as Sam to his friends and family, passed away in an unexpected accident in Milton, Florida on February 9, 2026. Born on April 16, 1943 in Geneva, Alabama, Sam lived a full life marked by dedication, kindness, and a deeply rooted faith.

Sam's early years in Geneva laid the foundation for a life of service and community involvement. Though he would eventually retire from a distinguished career as a Supervisor of Roofing for Civil Service, his impact on those he worked with and served was indelible. His leadership was not just in title but in action, as he guided his team with a generous spirit and a commitment to excellence that earned him the respect and admiration of all who knew him.

A devout Christian, Sam's faith was a central pillar of his life. It was this faith that shone through in his everyday interactions and the love he shared with others. Those who knew Sam were touched by his kindness and his unwavering belief in the goodness of people. He was a beacon of light and hope in his community. Sam's passions were as diverse as they were deeply held. He found joy in the simple pleasures of life, like playing his favorite bluegrass and country tunes, which often served as the soundtrack to many gatherings with friends and family. His love for antique and vintage cars was more than a hobby- it was a way to connect with history and fellow enthusiasts. Sam's cabin on the river was a sanctuary where he could indulge in his love for nature and spend quality time with his dear ones.

Traveling to visit close friends was another of Sam's joys, and he cherished the moments of laughter and camaraderie these trips would bring. His presence was a comfort and a joy to those he visited, and the memories created during these times became treasures to all who shared them.

Generous, kind, and faith-filled are woods that only begin to describe Sam. His generosity was felt not only in material gifts but in the time and attention he gave to each person he met. His kindness was a gentle force that could turn a day around, and his faith was the solid ground on which he stood, guiding him through life's challenges and joys.

The legacy Sam leaves behind is one of love, service, and the pure joy of living a life in tune with one's values and beliefs. He will be deeply missed by those who had the privilege of knowing him, and his spirit will continue to inspire and guide us.

As we say goodbye to Sam, we are comforted by the knowledge that his life was one well-lived, full of moments that spoke of his character and his love for others. Though he may be gone from our sight, his memory will live on in the hearts of all who were touched by his presence.

John Samuel Somerset's life was a testament to the beauty of a life lived with purpose and passion. As we reflect on his time with us, we celebrate the man he was and the countless ways he enriched our lives. Rest in peace, dear Sam, until we meet again.

Sam is preceded in death by his parents; John Daniel Somerset and Evangaline Warren Somerset; his wife, Francine Cadle Somerset; brother, Henry Daniel Somerset.

Sam is survived by his children, Donna Renae Somerset Jenkins and John Westley (Melissa Chartoneau) Somerset; sister, Eva Somerset Thomas; grandchildren, Haley (LeJarad) Smith and their children, Laia, Lyric, and LeJarah Jr. Smith, Brandon (Zoe) Jenkins, John Mixon Somerset and family, and Fancy Ann Somerset.
