Billy Wayne Wagoner, a beloved member of the community, passed away on November 5, 2023, at the age of 87. He was born on August 3, 1936, in Stantonville, TN, to his late parents Olahs (O.F.) Franklin and Clara Maude Sanders Wagoner.

Billy Wayne dedicated over 40 years as the editor and publisher of the Community News in Adamsville, TN. Through his work, he displayed a deep love for the community and its history, generously sharing his knowledge with everyone he encountered. 

In addition to his professional contributions, Billy Wayne was actively involved in various organizations. He was a member of Mt. Sharon Presbyterian Church, the Masonic Lodge in Adamsville - 3rd degree Mason in Grand Lodge in Nashville, TN. He also served as Past Master of the Lodge and served on the McNairy County Board of Education for four years. His passion for preserving history led him to become McNairy County Historian till his death.

Music brought much joy into Billy Wayne's life. For over 50 years, he showcased his talent playing guitar and banjo alongside Wayne Jerrolds and Flatwoods Bluegrass. Earning him a place in the Arts in McNairy County Hall of Fame.

As a young man, Billy Wayne nurtured dreams of becoming a professional baseball player. At only 17 years old, he played in the Tennessee Valley semi-pro league and garnered attention from prominent teams like the Memphis Chicks and Cleveland Indians. Although these opportunities did not lead to a professional career, his love for baseball persisted throughout his life - particularly for his cherished team, the St. Louis Cardinals.

Mr. Billy Wayne Wagoner is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Bobbye Jean (Mitchell) Wagoner; their daughter, Angela Lyn Flatt of Adamsville, TN; five grandchildren: Jon Matthew F. Wagoner and wife Alex of Stantonville, TN; Hollie E. Daniel and husband Josh of Selmer, TN; Ben Flatt of Adamsville, TN; Sharla Teel and husband Taylor of Bells, TN; Jessica Hicks of Bolivar, TN; nine great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, and a multitude of extended family members and friends who will cherish his memory.

Preceding him in death are his son Jon Clay Wagoner and his grandparents Tommie K. and Josie Humphries Sanders, Cad James and Lonie Bell Wagoner.

Billy Wayne Wagoner will be remembered for his unwavering dedication to his community, his remarkable knowledge of history, and his profound love for music and baseball. His passing leaves a void that will be deeply felt by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
