Mr. Billy Ray Wheeler, age 75, passed away on Sunday, March 2, 2025 at the SECU Hospice House in Smithfield, NC, surrounded by his loving family. Graveside Funeral Services will be 10:00AM-Thursday, March 6, 2025 at Roselawn Cemetery in Benson, NC. Rev. Wesley Taylor will officiate.
Mr. Wheeler was born on November 29, 1949 in Harnett County, NC to the late David Henry Wheeler and Callie Smith Wheeler. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his brothers, Joe Wheeler, Wilbur Wheeler, Charles Wayne Wheeler, Stacy Wheeler, and Robert Wheeler, and a sister, Hilda W. Dunn. Growing up alongside his parents, tenant farmers, Billy Ray and his siblings, learned the value of hard work through their tireless labor in the fields, which instilled a sense of determination that persisted throughout his life. Mr. Wheeler was a retired farmer. After his farming career he co-owned and operated Tart Brothers Gas and Grocery in Benson, NC. He enjoyed spending time at White Lake, NC with his family, and friends. His joy was his family, especially his grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Linda Langdon Wheeler; children, Melissa Wheeler and wife, Kristi; David Wheeler and wife, Dana; grandchildren, Landon Wheeler, Nathan Wheeler, and Jonah Kaelyn Wheeler; brother, Otha Wheeler, and wife, Barbara; sisters-in-law, Shirley Wheeler and Mavis Wheeler; many loving nieces and nephews.
An open-door visitation will be held from 9:00AM-5:00PM, Wednesday, March 5, 2025 at Rose & Graham Funeral Home in Benson, NC. The family will not be present during this time; however, they will receive friends following the graveside service.
