Birgid Waltraud Hedstrom

Birgid Hedstrom, beloved mother, grandmother, and sister, passed away peacefully on October 9, 2025, in Yorktown, Virginia.

Birgid was a woman of deep passions, with a love of gardening that was matched only by her affection for animals. Her life was enriched by the companionship of her cherished cats and the joy she found in various building projects. She dedicated many years to managing a garden center before retiring, bringing beauty and nature into the lives of those around her.

Preceded in death by her parents, Erich and Erna Heift, Birgid's memory will be cherished by her surviving family: her son Scott Hedstrom and his wife Libby; her daughter Nancy Wigley and her husband Larry; her siblings, Traute Thomas and Berndt Heift; and her grandchildren, Erik Hedstrom, Alex Hedstrom, Zachary Wigley and Ben Wigley.

A private family ceremony will be held at Williamsburg Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Birgid's name to the Heritage Humane Society, honoring her lifelong devotion to animal welfare.

She will be remembered for the love she shared with her family.
