It is with heavy hearts that we announce the untimely passing of Blake Scott Barclay, 19, who went to be with his Savior on Sunday, July 8, 2024, in Lubbock, TX. Born on March 31, 2005, in Fort Worth, TX, Blake's life was tragically cut short due to epilepsy-related complications.
Blake was recognized for his diligence and excellence in his varied interests through high school and college. He graduated third in his class and with Honors through the Forsan Independent School District in the Big Spring area in 2023. In his senior year of high school, he was awarded the John Philip Sousa Award for musical excellence, and he earned first place in editorial writing in District UIL competition. Blake was actively involved in tennis, track, and band throughout high school. He also participated in UIL One-Act Play and served in Student Government throughout all four high school years. Another highlight for Blake was being chosen as Band Beau his senior year.
The First Baptist Church youth group in Big Spring was a big part of his life. He demonstrated his love for others and for God by participating in several mission trips and church camps. He had the heart of Christ and put others first. He sought to include all, exclude none, and strove to make all feel they belonged.
Blake's family and friends marveled at his constant selflessness, thoughtfulness, discipline, and maturity.
Blake's love for architecture began to develop and grow in junior high school and he aspired to become an architect at the age of 13. His artistic and creative abilities were easy to recognize early in his life (#LEGOS). He excitedly began college as a member of the Honors College at Texas Tech University in the fall of 2023. After achieving a 4.0 grade point average in the Honors program and much hard work, he was ecstatic to be formally accepted into the highly competitive program at the Huckabee College of Architecture in June 2024. As a freshman, he earned quite the honor in having his modular system studio project chosen for exhibition at the First Friday Art Trail public art event held in the Lubbock Cultural District. His professors admired his dedication and thirst for knowledge.
Blake left us far too soon, leaving behind a legacy of kindness, determination, and intellectual curiosity. His smile was contagious and would light up the room; the sparkle in his eyes was an added bonus. Blake was a precious and amazing son, friend, coworker, and person who will be forever missed.
Blake is survived by his parents, Scott and Tresa Barclay of Big Spring, TX; his grandmother Linda Lyon of Decatur, TX; his aunt and uncle, Stacey and Tim Richardson, and first cousin Lindsey Richardson, of Houston, TX; his aunt Tammy Hendrix of Fort Worth, TX; and many friends.
Visitation will be held at 8:00 am – 9:00 pm on Friday, July 19, 2024, at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home located at 906 S. Gregg St., Big Spring, TX 79720, with Blake's parents present from 2:00 – 4:00 pm and 6:00 – 8:00 pm. A Celebration of Life service will be held at 1:00 pm on Saturday, July 20, at First Baptist Church of Big Spring, located at 705 FM 700, Big Spring, TX 79720. Friends, family, and fellow students are invited to join us in celebrating Blake's life and sharing cherished memories. Blake's parents respectfully request and encourage all to wear their Texas Tech Red Raider red and black colors or any TTU school attire to his remembrance celebration to help his family celebrate that TTU had been and was going to be such an integral part of his upcoming life.
