It's with a heavy heart that the Coates family announces the loss of Blake Alvin Coates, age 62, of West Jordan, Utah. He passed away on August 23rd, 2024 after a long battle with cancer and after sudden complications from heart surgery.
He is survived by the love of his life, Annette Jessop, his father Leland (Sharon), his siblings Jeri (Bryan), Sam, John (Jen), his sons Levi (Sarah), Jesse (Krystel), Wade (Emma), and his grandchildren Austin, Emmarie, Kaden, Riley, Ryott, and Ryker. He also loved and cherished Kami Mckeehan (a step daughter from a former marriage) and her children, Abrial, Tomi, and Armani.
Blake's family takes a little comfort in knowing he's with his mom Utahna now.
Blake was born on November 5th, 1961 and grew up in West Valley and Kearns, Utah. At Kearns High (where he graduated in 1980) he loved playing basketball and had the special opportunity to go play in Australia with his team.
He spent his life making Utah a better place to live with the countless construction sites he built and oversaw. In 2021 he retired from RJP Construction, where he worked for over 20 years. He always appreciated his work family and his fantastic boss Ron Peterson.
Blake loved camping, fishing, hunting, finding adventurous places to ride "The Green Hornet" (his side-by-side), watching historical documentaries (he hoped to travel to Pompeii one day), blasting rock 'n roll in his truck, watching basketball, and spending time with his family and pets. Most of all, he loved any time he spent with his world, his girlfriend, Annette. His family is so grateful that they got to have some recent adventures and make special memories by going riding in "The Green Hornet," traveling to Cabo and Jamaica, and countless others.
Blake's celebration of life will be on Friday, August 30th, 2024, at 11 am at the Mount Pleasant Utah North Stake (461 North 300 West, Mount Pleasant, UT, 84647).
The graveside service will follow at the Mount Pleasant cemetery at 12:30 pm. Please join us for a 2 pm luncheon at the Mount Pleasant Utah North Stake.

Life truly is precious and gone too soon. May you be blessed to have someone like Blake in your life. Let's all strive to be more like him by remembering to hug our loved ones closer, by laughing often, and by choosing to look for the good in others. Next time you crack open a can of ice cold Coca-Cola (it was his favorite!) take a minute, smile, and remember Blake...this one's for you buddy.
